Works natively with minor crashes
Once in a while after loading a save game or starting a level the user interface does not appear. After restarting the game everything is fine.
runs perfect

Game runs fine with default Steam settings. In regards to playing the game itself -- It started off great, but the jank unit management and restrictive tile zoning was frustrating to work around. Additionally, the slow feeding of new mechanics/units/rooms, made most of the first campaign feel like a long tutorial rather than unlocking new powers, so to speak.

The game itself works flawlessly.
Used kernel 6.9.3 and the game froze everytime making the whole system unresponsive, requiring hard reset. Some other apps like VLC had similar problems. Upgrading to 6.9.6 did not freeze anymore but still had heavy lag. Downgrading to 6.8.9 solved the issue. Runs perfectly now.
Because the issue lies in a kernel bug and not the game itself, solving this kind of problem is probably beyond the capabilities of a casual PC or Linux user. Hopefully, this will be fixed soon.
No issues detected

occasionally video stutter
On loading the game you will get the error "WFTOGame.x86_64" is not responding , how ever the game dose continue to load if you press wait
As other reports have mentioned, the native Linux version of the game has an issue with some middleware that causes the game to run much slower than its Windows / Proton counterpart. In my case it got to the point where I wasn't getting less than 1 FPS and had to kill the game from my desktop. Proton version worked perfectly fine.
Plug and play
The native version has a major performance hit due to issues with middleware. Playing it under proton is recommended

Native runs at ~20fps. Proton 5.13-4 runs at 60fps.
There's a bug in the native Linux build related to UI middleware:

Better performance than native with Proton 4.2-9.
Proton 4.2-9 works perfect. Newer Proton versions (5.0-9 and 4.11-13) got stuck on the start splash screen with high CPU usage.
No launch options were required or set.

Runs perfectly out of the box, except max FPS regardless of graphic settings is 20 FPS on the main menu. Ingame it also struggles to get above 40 FPS when anything is happening on screen, regardless of whether graphic settings are at lowest, or highest settings.

Game works native on Linux. On Proton it works now for me out of the box with DXVK.
