Native build works fine
Steam cloud syncing is broken but saves work locally
Just works

Level editor is made specifically for mouse and keyboard, and you are unable to exit the screen without using a mouse and/or the touchscreen
Native build is borked and crashes on startup. Forcing Proton makes the game work. Game generally works out-of-the-box, except the level editor like mentioned earlier (really poor foresight there). Rest of the game should be as you'd expect.
Better than native version
Use the proton version. By default it tries to use the Linux version and it just doesn't work
Set your FPS to unlimited (it won't get above 60fps anyway), it seems the game mechanics are tied to framerate (as usual in Game Maker games). So if you're using the fps limiter the game just goes slow
I have also tried the Steam Linux runtimes without any success.
Black screen with current standard proton version, perfect with proton experimental (and FPS set at 60/unlimited). Played <1 hour.
I have 40 FPS by default, but this seems to slow the game down slightly. 60 is much smoother.

This game was designed to work on Ubuntu. It seems to have problems with other Linux distributions. Nevertheless it works perfectly if forced to use Proton.
