PROTON_DXVK_D3D8=1 %command%
Requires To Install DXVK 2.4(dxvk2040) to fix planning phase problem. Open Protontricks GUI(install protontricks then run protontricks --gui
on terminal), choose Rainbow Six 3. Do Select The Default WinePrefix > Install Windows Dll > mark dxvk2040 > OK. Once it's finished, close protontricks and add Launch Options provided in this report. Planning phase is now fixed
I am using swaywm on while testing this, but I assume this game meant to be ran in windowed mode because the way it behaves. Putting it on full screen will put in buggy state. Post Gameplay, the game might defocus your mouse. Try to switch workspace so the game will try to recapture the mouse.
During planning phase when you add a waypoint, the game will freeze a bit. Do not panic since after that, it added the waypoint to the plan. Although, I agree this could've been improved.

I spent a long time fine tuning this game (Like using winecfg to run under XP for this game and the optimization patch)
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw=n,d3d9=n,d3d8=n,d3dimm=n" %command%
Skybox was a mess of all textures moving around and you can see through solid objects (like some sort of terrible wall hack) when using Proton Experimental, as well as textures flying across the screen.
Would sometimes launch in fullscreen, other times wouldn't (If you had Proton Experimental on)
Frame drops of up to 90 fps when loading new areas. Had to use winecfg, add ravenshield.exe to the list, then I made sure the game ran under XP mode (Which should help with frame drops/stuttering)
Wasted an hour of my life trying to get this game working, but it was worth it in the end. For some reason, certain resolutions over 720p weren't accessible without going into the ini files, but I was able to enjoy a solid 120fps (With some hitches when loading new areas)

PROTON_DXVK_D3D8=1 gamescope -W 2560 -H 1440 --force-grab-cursor %command%
Wouldn't grab mouse
Used to have problems before. But now with since d8vk is included in dxvk 2.4 (which is included in Proton Experimental) you can force it to use d8vk. Which seems to get rid of all the performance issues for me and makes planing phase finaly working. Yet you need gamescope since Fullscreen wouldn't otherwise not work. But after setting the launchparameters the game seems to work great so far. Finally!

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw=n,d3d9=n,d3d8=n,d3dimm=n" %command%
-the game didn't start full screen with Proton 9.x and Gamescope, I had to switch back to Proton 8.0-5 -I had stuttering, so I did these things to solve this: I placed the dgVoodoo2 DLL files to the game's system folder and applied them with the previously mentioned launch options. I used this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac2DnfT7F-o dgVoodoo2 download link: https://github.com/dege-diosg/dgVoodoo2 2.applied the "R63 Rainbow Six 3 Gold Raven Shield 2024 Optimization Patch" download link: https://www.moddb.com/downloads/r63-2018-optimizationpatch I just copied the files to the game's main folder -if you want to play multiplayer you will need to install OpenRVS download link: https://github.com/OpenRVS-devs/OpenRVS/releases I copied the files to the game's system folder
stuttering

gamemoderun gamescope %command%
It starts in window mode, and after that you will always see your taskbar, so I used gamescope ingame command super+f to force fullscreen
You can not plan a mission correctly.
After the tinker steps I think it's worth trying this game it's fun, but for the best experience I would think windows is a better choice.

By default, in planning mode, a mouse click will not place a waypoint, but instead change floor. The rest of the game works good with some tweaks for stuttering as shown by other reviews here. To fix this planning mode bug, and possible stutter as well, you need to use DgVoodoo_2: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/DgVoodoo_2. Scroll down the section on WINE for instructions. DgVoodoo a special graphics wrapper that converts old versions of directX commands to modern Windows. To enable it, you must alter WINE Cfg and add libraries that point wine to these new DgVoodoo .dll files. The DgVoodoo dlls files go in the /system folder for the game itself. To access winecfg and add the overrides, you need to enable protontricks for steam in the terminal on linux. Here's a good guide: https://simpler-website.pages.dev/html/2021/1/protontricks/ Protontricks does have a basic GUI interface "protontricks --gui" so once installed, it is easier to navigate to wine cfg dialogues.
Planning stage did not place waypoints properly; could not place waypoints with a mouse click by default and their is no alternate way to place waypoints in planning mode.

If you want to play this game for all features include planning, might need to hold for a sec. The planning phase is unusable
Planning phase is broken. Mouse clicked doesn't place waypoints, but cycle floor instead.
The planning phase is completely broken
Mouse issues fixed by disabling ReduceMouseLag in RavenShield.ini
Occasional stuttering
Planning screen is unusable - clicking on the map cycles floor view instead of placing waypoints.
The game is playable only if you use premade plans or play without one.
Heavy stuttering.

Since planning mode is broken, this game loses its one key feature. You might as well just play the SWAT series or Ready or Not.
There's an extreme dithering look to all dark textures. Very dark areas are hideous looking and can be almost pitch black as a result.
The game hangs when trying to place waypoints in mission planning mode and then waypoints aren't placed
Planning mode still seems to be non-functional since I can't seem to place any waypoints.
Stuttering issues, not an enjoyable experience
Near constant stuttering (does not happen on windows)
Input is laggy. Enemies teleport.
Input often lags. Soldier stops moving, mouse input does not work for like a second.. Also enemy "teleports" in that time

Without planning phase this game is a bad FPS. Without Multiplayer, what is the point?
Single Player Planning Phase mouse (left click & right click) not working.
Multiplayer not working natively (patches seem to exist yet not for linux)
Multiplayer
No issues.
Cannot play game as it is frequently lagging and stuttering
Lag and stuttering. Game is overall unplayable

Slight stuttering here and there. Runs fine otherwise.

No tweaks needed. First start of the application leads to a crash in the main menu (i changed the graphics + resolution settings). With the 2nd, 3rd and 4th start i was able to play without any issuse. I guess it was the change of the resolutions because default is 800x600

game little stutters (vsync problem?), mouse feels weird in menu and also a bit ingame. Good playable until so far

To load AthenaSword by default, add "mod=AthenaSword" to game launch options ('Properties' -> 'Set launch options' in Steam UI)

Stutters in-game with default config, but these edits help: 1. In-game Options, set Sound -> Audio Virtualization to "No Virtualization" 2. editing RavenShield.ini (location differs based on installation, roughly steamapps/common/Rainbow Six 3 Gold/system/RavenShield.ini) with the following (some options may already be set): ReduceMouseLag=False UseHardwareTL=False UseHardwareVS=False MaxPixelShaderVersion=1 UseVSync=True

Moving the window to another monitor causes some oddness, but found it to be easily remedied by opening and closing the options menu. This occurs for me at both game launch and mission start (starts on wrong monitor).

Runs almost perfectly out of the box. There's a bit of stuttering, but this was experienced in Windows too. Following these instruction helped: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=739436571

The game works, however in menu/planning screen, the mouse is a bit hard to move/odd.
