Working as of today by forcing Proton 8.0-5 in the Compatibility settings before launching the game.

To disable most of the Origin overlay ,rename igo64.dll to disable_igo64.dll in the game prefix SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/1225580/pfx/drive_c/Program\ Files\ (x86)/Origin/
After limiting the game to 3 cores it run good around 50 FPS. wIthout limit it is unplayable around 25 FPS.
Runs hot and fan gets a bit loud, but dropping to 40hz refresh helped a lot. Battery lasts longer with this change too.
Origin laucher required touchscreen and on-screen keyboard to authenticate.
Half Rate Shading causes reproducible flickering artifacts on most light sources.
Some very rare, but also random, short pauses during gameplay. Nothing annoying or game breaking, just be aware.
If you don't tinker, you shouldn't expect issues. It is playable from start to end with very minor issues. Tinkering for better battery performance may lead to issues, so only recommend changing to 40hz and nothing else.
the game started to lag again, solution was to disable in-game stuff for Origin as well as then disabling cloud saves in Origin, runs well once again

used Lutris to install Origin, then ran the install through steam (it forces installing origin again)
Unplayable with no controller detected at fisrt, but with minimal intervention in form of [using Lutris to install Origin] before [installing through Steam] fixed all the issues, the game now runs perfectly with full controller support. Would recommend

Averaged a stable 18 FPS with no stutters. The game utilizes very little hardware.
These performance issues occurred on Proton-GE-7.3, Proton Experimental, Proton 7.0, and Proton 6.3. While the game is technically playable, it is very hard to enjoy at under 20 FPS.
Finished game with disappointing performance
Really uneven performance. Most often 33-35 fps. 100+ in some areas
Runs OOTB but with absymal performance.
Game runs with 15-30 FPS.
I noticed a little audio crackle in some areas, might be fixed with PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60
Mouse and keyboard on the menu seemed to work fine, but without controller support the game isn't worth it imo.
PS4 controller was not detected.
