Sound effects other than music and voices did not play when launching the game.
Fixed by unpacking the N - Sounds.bsa
file.
- Install
wine
andwinetricks
- Create a temporary wine32 prefix:
mkdir -p /tmp/pfx # Or whatever path you want WINEPREFIX=/tmp/pfx wine wineboot
- Install
dotnet48
WINEPREFIX=/tmp/pfx winetricks dotnet48
- Download BSA Browser from https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/1756 (choose the 7z archive)
cd
into theData
directory in your Nehrim installation directory and runbsab.exe
onN - Sounds.bsa
You may need to run this multiple times, sometimes some of the files fail to unpack.cd path/to/nehrim/installation/Data WINEPREFIX=/tmp/pfx wine path/to/bsab.exe -i -e: "N - Sounds.bsa" .
- Delete the wine prefix if you want.
Installing dotnet48
does NOT work on a Proton prefix because protontricks
expects a 32-bit wine prefix.
This is probably just Bethesda's fault lol
I installed the GOG version using Steam so YMMV on the Steam version.
I couldn't get the Steam version of Nehrim working. However you can play Nehrim by installing it from the dev's website.
steamtinkerlaunch %command%
Manually installing and launching through Oblivion + Steam Tinker Launch works... the standalone game on Steam doesn't.
- download the Nehrim Installer from https://sureai.net/games/nehrim/.
- make sure you have Oblivion working on Steam
- launch Oblivion with these launch options: steamtinkerlaunch %command%
- Upon launching you will see a box that will quickly disappear, you need to press "MAIN MENU", then "GAME MENU". Under misc options tick "Use custom command" and "Only custom command". Select the installer you downloaded in "Custom command", click "SAVE AND PLAY" and install Nehrim. Uncheck all the boxes at the end of the install so it doesn't try to start Nehrim immediately and finish the install. If your Steam still says it is running Oblivion just quit the game from Steam.
- Now that you installed Nehrim, launch Oblivion again and press "MAIN MENU","GAME MENU" just like you did previously. Now you need to change the "Custom command" to your Nehrim launcher. Assuming everything went well you should find it in
- After getting into the launcher make sure that all the "Nehrim*.esp" and vanilla oblivion data files are checked. Graphical settings including resolution are best customized inside of the game (I couldn't find my monitor's resolution in the launcher, but could in the actual game for example). Now you can play Nehrim through launching Oblivion on Steam and it should load up the Nehrim launcher after the initial Steam tinker launch box disappears on it's own.
Borked
Complains about Steam, Oblivion and Steam not located on same drive.
Also tried to install all of them in my /home/[...] Steam Library to no avail.
At this point I am not adventurous enough to look into solving this issue.
Error message when launching the game
Game complains that Oblivion, Nehrim and Steam needs to be installed on the same drive
managed to solve some issues, but not all
Here is how I made the gamne launch at least:
install Oblivion install Nehrim
install protontricks: python --version (if lower than version 3, install python 3) sudo apt install python3 sudo apt-get install winetricks wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Sirmentio/protontricks/master/protontricks && chmod +x protontricks sudo mv protontricks /usr/bin/protontricks
start oblivion once start Nehrim once
install steam with protontricks protontricks 1014940 steam (fails with checksum error, but downloads the steam setup)
install steam on oblivion in C drive using wine (winetricks also fails with checksum error) WINEPREFIX=/home/YOURUSER/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1014940/pfx wine /home/YOURUSER/.cache/winetricks/steam/SteamSetup.exe
WINEPREFIX=/home/YOURUSER/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/22330/pfx wine /home/YOURUSER/.cache/winetricks/steam/SteamSetup.exe
change drive in /home/YOURUSER/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1014940/pfx/user.reg and /home/YOURUSER/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/22330/pfx/user.reg from C to Z like shown below
[Software\Valve\Steam] 1599253792 #time=1d682ffbb31a91e "language"="german" "SteamExe"="Z:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" "SteamPath"="Z:\Program Files\Steam"
[Software\Valve\Steam\ActiveProcess] 1599253792 #time=1d682ffbb31a9fa "PID"=dword:0000fffe "SteamClientDll"="Z:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamclient.dll" "SteamClientDll64"="Z:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamclient64.dll" "SteamPath"="Z:\Program Files (x86)\Steam"
Now launch Nehrim and the switcher starts, switch to Nehrim Click on launch Nehrim in the switcher and You get to the Nehrim Launcher Choose Your settings and select the data files. Then close the nehrim launcher! Launch Oblivion and Nehrim starts. Unfortunately nothing happens when You try to start a new game, everything else seems to work.
Tried Newest Version, Game doesn't start
Tried v2.0.1.2 of Nehrim today neither the Launcher nor the Oblivion Nehrim Switcher will start. With Proton v5.09 I got an Error that Steam, Nehrim and Oblivion are not installed on the same drive even though they are. With v4.11-13 nothing happens. The Proton logger prints: [ERROR] FATAL UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object at InstallSwitcher01.cs_Program.workingDirectorySearcher ...
Game loads to menu, won't go beyond that
If I have Nehrim and Oblivion installed, I can get Nehrim to launch, but the game hangs after selecting "new game" so you can't actually play it. I tried to tweak everything I can think of in the launch options, but I haven't been able to figure it out yet.
To at least launch the game, you have to launch Nehrim, use its menu to select Nehrim instead of Oblivion, then close the game, and then launch Oblivion. Oblivion will automatically run Nehrim leading you to the game's menu.
To play Oblivion again, you need to launch Nehrim and use that menu to select Oblivion. Then, close Nehrim and open Oblivion, and the game should launch as normal.
Not playable yet
so you need to install oblivion and nehrim... then launch nehrim and let it install itself into the oblivion folder. within the launcher you need to turn off enbboost and then you can launch into the main menu with oblivion but when you try to create a new game the game does nothing and you are just stuck in the main menu... loading a save file might be possible but i don't have one to try it out.
Plays through to title screen
Clicking 'New game' closes the menu, but nothing else happens.
Run Nehrim to move the files to Oblivion, then close the launcher and run Oblivion.
laucher works (with bugs), game crashes with "Application load error 5:0000065434"
Issues with Launcher
This mode was installed in Oblivion folder. But it also creates Nerhim folder with few files and .bat scenario, this scenario is used to launch Nehrim from Oblivion folder. So when I tried to launch the game I stumble across problem that .bat cant find Nerhim files and showed me an error 5:0000some numbers. For windows users i found an advice that it is possible to solve such problem if you install steam, oblivion and nehrim on same drive. But I dont know how to implement this on Linux.
