Using the default Proton, my framerate was in the 40's on default graphical settings when I should be getting 60fps. Once I switched to GE-Proton7-47, my fps was at a steady 60fps. Stable and I was able to pick up where I left off when I last played this game under Windows.
Runs great out of the box!
Be sure to run Steam Runtime, not Steam Native. When running this game via Steam Native, the libraries are not compatible with the game and you'll get weird issues like not being able to get to the main menu.
Runs fine out of the box.
Be sure to run this game using Steam Runtime, not Steam Native. Attempting to run via Steam Native will result in the game not launching at all.
I tried various versions of Proton, including GE version, but the FF VII launcher screen would appear and then crash. Subsequent launches would never launch the launcher.
I uninstalled, then switched to Proton 3.7-8 and it worked! Launcher launched completely, and then I was able to launch the game from their and it worked.
Overall, the game runs exceptionally well under Linux. I could never get the Chainsaw Demo to run for long without hanging.

It felt like the textures were not as crisp as they are under Windows, but screenshots from both Windows and Linux seemed to show not a huge difference at all.
There seemed to be some more frame drops than what I esperienced under Windows but not much. It runs at a near constant 60 fps for me.
Overall, I'm getting a pretty constant 60 fps. Sometimes there are some hitches which when monitoring via MangoHud, it appears there are some interruptions in the frame-time. But overall, it runs about as good as it does for me under Windows. I'm very impressed.
My PC isn't the most powerful, but the game ran on average at 60 fps on medium settings. Overall, the game was very playable.
Had to download latest VC++ Visual Studio runtime from MS site. Then, in Heroic game launcher for the game, go into settings, scroll down and click on the "RUN EXE ON PREFIX" button and navigate to where you downloaded the VC++ Installer .exe and run it. Game runs perfectly after that.
For whatever reason, I have to install VC++ Runtime when installng from Epic Gamestore. Not sure about Steam.
