I did set Watts to 5 and GPU Clock to 600,, you might be able to go lower, but for a VN it drains way too much power anyway, IMHO.
The Steam Decks' Zoom Feature does often help. Press that sweet-sweet STEAM Button+L1 Shortcut.
When switching from Proton 8 to GE-Proton8-6 I was able to save+load.
You can probably also "fix" the savegame bug while switching to any normal other Proton version, I just went with GE-Proton8-6. ProtonUp-Qt should help you out easily, though.
gamemoderun mangohud %command%
After disabling V-Sync within the game no issues are present anymore (artifacts at the lower third of the screen).
The 4090 is throtteled to about 70% of it's performance to match power consumption of an 2080 TI, so if you are in the range of those calibers, and wanting to play in 4k with highest settings, you should not have any issues to talk about at all.
What could still be noted is some interesting behaviour in LOD/texture loading, depending on how close/far you are to terrain/objects/waterfalls, but I'm unsure of how this is different between all the versions of the game/running it natively on Windows.
The game is great and the used facial motion capturing is fun to watch.
On another note:
On ChimeraOS, with an AMD RX 6600, some hair textures look off (transparency), while playing on 1080p with no upscaling involved.
Just using the "medium" texture quality and setting the launch options should not be too much of tinkering for any typical gamer
PROTON_SET_GAME_DRIVE=1 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr11 %command% -launcher
On release day (up till now, v1.727.0.0 of the game) (all?) Nvidia GPUs seem to have issues with playing/loading the game up till the main menu, which loads in after the Sony Logo+Wrench loading icon.
Having said this, with the given params others over on Github have set, they found a workaround by also setting texture quality to "medium". This works for me with setting everything else to the highest option possible + 4K at ~70FPS (says MangoHud), with Field of View: 25, Motion Blur: 2, Film Grain: 2, Sharpness: 10. RT Features? Not tested, don't care.
Also, at time of writing, I still get an error message about Nvidia driver version stuff on PC, but I can just ignore it. Currently, mine on Arch Linux is set to "535.86.05".
Game might be short but it's fun.
Also it's interesting to see how the DirectStorage v1.2 thingy does work out in the end and how all the hype for "can only run on PS5" was -again- more marketing than anything else. I think it's fair to say that now, also after Digital Foundry's video(s) about this.
You might need to use the -launcher
launch option param as well, as stated in mine, if you have already disabled the Launcher in desktop mode once.
Otherwise just remove/don't set it.
Big Pictures Mode & Steam Deck don't seem to load it by default.
Running fine on Steam Deck as well, but I got the following issues:
- (Probably) Memory leakage, so at some point it lows down and then freezes / Steam Deck reboots.
- Sometimes geometry and "event" data (new enemies spawning, ...) is not being correctly loaded all the time, even though the game is stored on a new Corsair MP600 Mini 1TB... kinda like when you would run a new game in an emulator.
And for both devices I currently use Proton Experimental.
After installing d3dcompiler_47.dll like other users also recently started to suggest, the game starts up like a charm.
Gameplay has not been tested by me yet. Will be tested and played by me on Steam Deck, though.
Thanks to the others for finding that out.
