Occasionally the game would stop reading the mouse, requiring a restart
Occasional server issues, though that didn't seem unfamiliar compared to windows
I would make sure to download the shader cache from https://github.com/bcook254/apex-legends-cache before launching. The stutters are awful if you don't do this and will be very painful in the long run. The game is entirely playable without any tweaking but I wouldn't recommend unless you can bare the stutter for a few games

Played about 6 hours online with a server halfway across the world. VERY minor input latency when interacting with objects but nothing unexpected
Guys, stop using proton on this game. The windows version is the slowest performer out of MacOS, Linux and Windows. Enabling proton will just add extra CPU overhead which isn't needed in a notoriously CPU bound title.
Not only is the native build faster. But it's more stable, supports native wayland and is the method that is officially supported by the dev team. They also support non-blocking save as an option on Unix (Linux and MacOS) systems, which means the save doesn't pause the game unlike on Windows.
You guys are hindering yourself by running this one on proton :P
Anyway, performance was decent given the hardware and can manage some of the bigger servers on the lower settings with a pretty decent UPS. It's far from ideal but I'm sure a memory speed upgrade and a CPU upgrade to my laptop would go a long way

There is a crash if you use MSAA in any form. Disabling it fixes the issue...
Only ranked 'good' because forza servers suck lol. None of the connection issues were proton since I've experienced them on windows using game pass before :P
DO NOT REPORT ANY ISSUES WITH (OR USE) MESA_NO_ERROR=1 AT ALL. I only use this option because I am fully aware of the risks and want to get a few more FPS.
This game has been practically unplayable with frequent crashes for a long while now. I was advised by a friend to give it another try on Proton 8 before he buys it to play with me, and I am pleasently surprised to see that almost all crashing issues are gone once you get into the game. Crashing does happen when using MSAA, but disabling it does work and you could use VKBasalt with SMAA post-processing to fix the jaggies if they really bother you.
There is a weird issue where the game will randomly judder, like the game engine slows down for a second before catching back up and the result is your car jolting forward. This can be somewhat reduced by having an FPS cap. In my case I chose 120FPS as the cap but you may find a better one that suits you...
I used Proton-GE for this, and it is 100% playable. The only sign the forza experience isn't on windows are the MSAA issues and the random judder that occasionally happens. Other than that it's basically perfect now
This game on its own launches like windows pretty much. The only exception being is when you want to install meghack v7/v7.1 Luckily, someone has made an install script since I first installed this which has made it easier. This can be viewed here: https://github.com/RoootTheFox/Linux-MegaHack-Installer
As for the game itself, performance is actually better than windows in many ways. I am able to have more objects drawn on screen at once before the FPS starts to tank, and the game looks great on windowed or fullscreen. Input latency seems to be the same as windows, although I'm not the most sensitive to that sort of thing. However, this is how I beat multiple demons so it is definitely a great experience.
Broken for sure. Worked before EA play was forced...
I absolutely agree with the other PC player below me. This used to work perfectly fine. Now thanks to the bulls--- EA play launcher, it no longer works.
I've tried all sorts. From older proton versions, to the latest. Or even using different versions of Proton-GE over 2 weeks. Nothing I do will make it work any more and it's absolutely unfortunate. It's really a shame as I used to play this now and again with quite a few friends. Hopefully we see a fix sooner rather than later...
I followed the advice on here which fixed my issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/ylerkg/ea_app_crashing_solution/
I previously mentioned that this game was borked thanks to EA play. Wiping my compatdata folder for this game seemed to work properly and let me begin playing
I think using a very recent proton version such as experimental or Proton GE 7.41+ should be good. Wiping the compatdata folder is a must however if you had previous download info from origin or older versions of EA play. Haven't tested enough or over multiple days to decide if this needs to be done every time, or just once. Hopefully it will be just once however...
Program doesn't work under linux from my testing. May be an AMD issue?
vk_pro %command%
I tried this program under proton and I got an error stating 'Unsafe Device, SVFI does not support running on this machine'. I am unsure if this is to do with the fact I'm using AMD or if there's an issue with proton which is blocking this. I would test my Nvidia GPU but that would require a lot of setting up with drivers and such, no thanks.
I was told by someone that it heavily relies on CUDA, but I'm unsure if this error would happen with an AMD card on windows or not.
It may appear to some that I don't own this, but that's simply because I chose to refund this app. Maybe someone else can have better luck.
