This game doesn't work!
I tried default Proton, Proton Experimental, GE Proton, old Proton versions, and new Proton versions. The game never gets past its startup menus. I don't know how this ever became "Platinum" rated on ProtonDB.
Runs well on Steam Deck!
The game loaded up and played fine. There is even an option in settings to greatly increase the text and UI size, which makes it more than readable on the Steam Deck. I'm not sure why this was rated as "Bronze" on the ProtonDB site, since it's Steam Deck verified and plays very well without having to tweak things or mess with Proton versions. It should be listed as "Platinum" instead of "Bronze".
Needs video codecs not present in Valve's Proton, so GE-Proton is a must. Tested with GE-Proton8-32 and 9-4. Videos played fine then. One of the beginning videos (where it ends with "I'm a G-D superhero!") didn't continue after ending. Pressing Select/Start to skip the video gets it to end and the game to proceed. I have not played far enough to notice any other videos getting "stuck" like that. Graphics set to High, seems to get a solid 90 FPS on OLED Steam Deck.
Codec issues with Steam's Proton (placeholder/test patterns), and the game won't load with GE Proton.
The game is perhaps playable with Steam's Proton, but it does NOT "run perfectly".
With Valve's Proton and older GE Proton versions, the game seems to completely FREEZE/CRASH when it tries to play the intro video. Valve lists the game as unsupported because of this - yet the game is listed as PLATINUM on ProtonDB! Really?
With the newest GE-Proton9-7, the game loaded, the intro video played, and the game seemed to run fine.
Text is a bit large and can overlap other text in the menus/settings, and the timing of the subtitles doesn't match the dialog when a video plays (and the timing difference only increases the longer a video plays).
Looking at older reports, the game apparently needed d3dcompiler_46 in the past, or you would load to a black screen. That still happens with the default Steam proton, but when I selected Proton Experimental or GE-Proton9-18, the game loaded fine. I did not use protonfixes or d3dcompiler_46.
Definitely not Deck-friendly!
Like others experienced, the game won't even start. Tried with stock Proton, GE Proton, Proton versions from 3.x to 9.x, etc.
The framerate is all over the place when graphic settings are set to anything higher than Medium. The game still looks great with that setting, so I don't consider this a hugh problem.
I played with whatever the default Steam Deck configuration was as of March 2024 (default Proton and controller config), graphics set to Medium, and VSync off. Everything seemed to look and run well!
Need to load up in Desktop mode first to link account.
I must have sat for several minutes, waiting for the game to load, before realizing it had opened a browser window in the background, trying to link the game to my Epic account. I could not interact with that browser window unless I switched to Desktop mode before playing. I saw no one else mention this.
Intro videos are silent
Going with Steam Proton gives you the test pattern videos. Going with GE-Proton gets the videos to display, but there is no audio. Strange seeing so many reports that the game works fine.
Street Fighter IV appears to work correctly with up to GE-Proton 6.
Using newer GE Using GE-Proton 7/8/9, audio will NOT work in video cutscenes.
Using Steam Proton, video will give you the test patterns.
You can get the latest GE-Proton 6 here: https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/6.21-GE-2
Copy the archive (Proton-6.21-GE-2.tar.gz) to ~/.local/share/Steam/compatibilitytools.d and then extract it.
With all graphic settings maxed you can get a solid 60 FPS (LCD) or 90 FPS (OLED).
