The game does not start with Proton Experimental or 9.0. Once I selected Proton 8.0-5 it started and the game runs flawlessly.
Does not run with Proton Experimental, but it runs perfectly with Proton 8.0-5.

Alt-Tabbing and going back to the game makes it laggy, but this can be fixed by alt-tabbing again.
mangohud gamemoderun %command%
Contrary to the other reports, the game worked fine with mangohud. 70-75 FPS in space (space station, anomaly, freighter etc.), 50-60 FPS on planet while moving around. With vsync turned off, the game was very laggy, but this can be fixed with the triple buffered setting. (Also using Freesync) Enhanced preset, overclocked RX 570 (1415MHz @ 1095mV). Power consumption was around 130-140W.

The game runs way better than it did on a Windows VM with GPU passthrough, maybe even better than it did on bare-metal Windows, idk. First time I started it, it didn't work (no error, just closed/didn't start). Also it takes 10-15 seconds to get my cursor back after I close it.
When switching region in the Glyph Launcher, I had to hold down "Tab" after pressing the gear icon, because the menu was invisible.
