I played it thinking it would be the optimal way to play half life 1 on the steam deck. It wasn't. You're better off playing the original.
I experienced random drops into the low 20s. I even dropped the resolution and used the decks internal fsr but experienced the same issues.
Once I entered Xen, I crashed approx 10 times in the few hours I was in the area.
It's really dependant on the person playing. I have a 4080 in my rig and play at 100+ fps at 4k. On my SD, Im ok running 30 fps
Need an option to increase size of in-game text
After using the config changes, it's improved over stock settings, but it'll still dip below 30 on difficulty 7 or higher.
I highly suggest making config changes. I was running 20-32 fps with low settings. After config changes, I was running 25-40 at higher difficulties. It's not perfect, but it's def playable.
Had to flip to proton near the end of the game. Not sure why. Seems like Linux runtime ran into issues. Aside from that, flawless experience
Worked perfectly until near the end of the game and then randomly crashed. When I tried to boot the game again by clicking play in steam, it would load for a moment and bring me back to the play screen. I changed to proton 8 and it worked again.
I think a typical gamer would require a consistent 60fps to enjoy an online multiplayer game. This isn't possible with the finals ATM.
Even with every setting on low, the fps tends to dip into the 40s. While I was ok with this for a few days, I eventually tried remote streaming from a ps5 running at 60fps followed by remote streaming from my PC running 90fps and realized I was dying BECAUSE of the 40-45 fps the deck can produce. Better off playing elsewhere unless you have no other choice.
Crashes once in a while.
