Runs better on linux than windows
This game runs really well, way better than I thought. I switched about a week ago and was expecting to get a small dip in perf but actually got around 8% more fps compared to windows. Cool to see a game run better on linux than windows
The game runs well and is stable, but I get around 70% of the performance I had on w10
The game is stable, but I get about 70% of the performance I was getting on Windows. I would see a stutter or two but its very infrequent and rare
On w10 I got ~120-130 fps logging in and when the camera pans to the window and nav console. I get around 90-95 when I turn around to look at nightwave and go towards the foundry. I got around 200 fps in the dojo as well. On linux I now get 90-100 fps logging in and when the camera pans to the window, around 75 fps when I look behind me and walk towards the foundry, and now get around 150 fps in the dojo. I don't remember exactly what I got in hollvania, but it must have been around 80-100 on windows. I remember seeing fps dip to about 58 on linux when there were a lot of scaldra explosions right in front of me, so the perf hit lines up there too. Consistently between 2/3 to 3/4 of the perf on windows
My gpu usage is max which is good, but cpu utilization is way lower compared to what I saw on windows, so I think the game is not utilizing cpu as much as it should. I tried ge-proton 9-22, proton 9.0.4, hotfix and experimental with all of those leading to the same result. I tried to use protonfixes but I have no idea what to do/install because I just switched to linux a week ago and don't want to mess anything up. There's not a lot of coverage for warframe on linux.
One thing I did not try is installing the optional git mesa drivers, but I didn't want to mess with gpu drivers because deep rock galactic runs great. I could try that soon, but I don't think it will change anything. To me it seems like an issue between warframe and proton.
Something else that is pretty annoying is warframe constantly validating. It doesn't do it every time but it is frequently doing these 20gb validations. I wonder if installing it standalone would help
I had to reinstall Nobara because my installation became corrupted after cloning incorrectly, which unintentionally worked in my favor because now I'm back to square one. All I did was install GE-Proton9-25 and the performance is nearly identical to windows, which is a huge improvement over my first post. The game still ran well and was stable at that time but the average framerate was just lower, as if I turned up the settings or something.
Now the performance is identical and you might not even need to do any tweaking besides changing Proton versions. I went to the same spots from my first post and my framerate is about 7-10% less in the ship but was actually a little higher in the dojo. So that evens out to match Windows which is huge because this is my main game.
I'm already really happy with this but now I'm curious to see if the nt-sync driver coming in the next kernel update will make this game run even better than windows!
