game wouldn't launch at all on my mesa build (minimal-git) unless i installed the lib32-xcb-util-keysyms
package (arch), another alternative was reverting to repo mesa or using PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1
, but doing so introduced input lag and low fps
from the few hours of gameplay everything was perfect and smooth - after an OS reinstall however i'm getting very weird rubberbanding on teammates/enemies
simple and casual battlefield-esque low-poly game, as described. basically roblox phantom forces but a little more fleshed out
xrandr --output DP-2 --mode 1280x960 --rate 165; gamemoderun %command% -novid -nojoy -language tm; xrandr --output DP-2 --mode 1920x1080 --rate 165
documented issue that system audio bitrate above 44.1khz causes the game to desync in audio in prolonged sessions - workaround is to change audio device in settings (and back to preferred) or set systemwide bitrate to 44.1khz
smoke particles and similar had artifacting, known issue with intel arc gpus, seems to be tied to mesa regressions
xrandr launch options are needed to be able to alt tab - without it, my screen turns to black when alt tabbing (and exiting the game) and renders me unable to get back into the game until i xrandr my screen back to native res. alternatively i can also unplug my 2nd monitor while playing
horrendous performance, widely known issue w/ the linux build and documented on their github issues page. theres also a major issue with frametimes after the first alt-tab, halving 1% low avg and having even more of an impact on 0.1% lows
cannot unbind keys in settings - clicking the X just binds the action to mouse1
steam overlay doesnt work - button presses are never actually passed through
several other game-related issues such as bomb dropping inside the ground causing a round loss or the main menu taking more resources (including 100% gpu usage on capped fps!) than a real match, but those are also issues in the windows build
game feels like a terrible port atm. rushed for a deadline they could never reach and as such poorly optimized. the fact alone that the entire closed beta didnt even have a linux build available is also just something i really dislike. there are months-long open issues for major bugs on the issue tracker yet no reports about those even being worked on. id say give it 6 months or more until the game will be in a proper playable state for competitive
kscreen-doctor output.DP-2.mode.1280x960@165; gamemoderun %command% -nojoy -language tm; kscreen-doctor output.DP-2.mode.1920x1080@165
had to add a custom resolution via kernel params - launching the game in a 4:3 res just gave me an unscaled game window
performance still suffering a lot - fps are still a lot lower than expected.
unbinding keys in settings still an issue, main menu still taking up way more resources than should be needed, what was fixed however is the overlay.
after playing for about a month between my last report and this one ive switched from x11 to wayland, hence the updated launch options and the need for a kernel boot param to get stretched to work. another issue ive faced is very poor visibility through molotov fire/smoke. the audio issues from my last report have also disappeared, but that could be due to switching to wayland - on another note, trying to launch legacy csgo needs a really silly workaround.
gamemoderun %command% -novid -vulkan
adding -vulkan
to launch options seemed to be standard procedure for the native linux version, so i havent tried without it as the game ran perfectly stable from start to finish (including both episodes) to the point i could 100% the achievements for it

12 hours in, everything works as expected using xbox controller, havent tested w/ default proton

just click install and play

no issues, no complaints. a very interesting game that makes me want to try out similar games of the same genre, namely DAVE THE DIVER
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winmm=n,b" gamemoderun mangohud %command%
as there is no steam cloud saving, saves can easily be lost if not backed up manually
2 problems:
as network requests are currently single-threaded, lobbies with a lot of people (10+) cause significant performance issues. only real fix for this is downloading a mod (personally using Calico) which splits up those requests into multiple threads
the second problem seems to be a memory leak of sorts in the game where sessions running for an extended period of time cause a major performance loss, but a game restart is enough to fix it
spent a good 200 hours to 100% the game and met a lot of lovely new people, overall a great socializing game with fishing moreso meant as a minigame on the side
