Able to play on NVidia as others have mentioned with the brilliant work of HansKristian's Vulkan layer 'Pyroveil'.
PYROVEIL_CONFIG=$HOME/pyroveil/hacks/ffvii-rebirth-nvidia/pyroveil.json PYROVEIL=1 %command%
World textures missing by default on NVidia cards. Can be fixed for now with Pyroveil. To set up follow build instructions at https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/pyroveil?tab=readme-ov-file#checkout-and-build and run with the launch options I've listed (unless you modify install directories, of course). Will update when NVIdia hopefully provides driver update and workaround is no longer necessary.
Finally fixed visual degradation with Nvidia driver 570.133.07-1
The recent Nvidia driver release 570.133.07-1
corrects the missing textures and objects in the world (such as missing ground and walls in environments). Experience minor stutter when loading shaders upon entering an area for the first time, then smoother than Windows gameplay!
Very slight crackling to audio, not enough to be distracting but it is present.
This is for the FULL RELEASE, not the demo. Playing 3 day early deluxe edition. Other than slight crackling to audio on Proton Experimental, there have been 0 gameplay issues. runs smooth out of the box and mirrors capabilities running on Windows.
After the 1.1.310 patch on 9NOV2023 Multiplayer now full works as intended and smoother than on Windows.
Everything now works as intended and was able to fuly complete all game content with no issues and smoother gameplay than on Windows, and have verified 100% that multiplayer now works! Load it up and enjoy!
As with most other reviews listed game runs basically fine out of the box with no tweaks applied. 60 fps+ majority of the time other than loading in new events for the first time such as xray moves or scene changes. Main glaring issue keeping this from a Gold or even Platinum being the story mode cutscenes losing audio upon QTE execution. This CAN be fixed as others mentioned by closing the game and restarting. Other than that personally game functions as a plat.. good frame rate entire game is playable, no other issues aside from loss of audio after QTE's . tested before and after Proton 4.2-2. Will further test on future releases for audio bug.
Runs perfectly fine out of box, using DS4 controller and keyboard have no input latency or any issues with keybinds, runs at solid 60 fps, no audio or visual issues.
Base game and Separate Ways both ran flawlessly for me out of the box on Proton 8.0-3.
Works out of the box with no issues so far at 2 hours of playtime.
No issues experienced so far, I tested on Windows 11 as well and the gameplay performance is identical. While FSR 3 is selectable it will cause the first in-game video (in the graveyard) to not display video. Using another (or none) works perfectly.
Currently 114 hours, completed everything and saw no issues. Seemed to play over 60fps no problem at all times with no tweaks necessary. In the past if you Alt-Tab out of the game multiple times it would seem to randomly stop accepting input for the start menu or free look (mouse or right stick) this was corrected by exiting and restarting the game, however I have not been able to replicate as of yet upon release of proton 4.2-2 so possibly fixed? Minor issue if using Dual Shock 4, turn off Sixaxis/Gyro or else camera moves sporadically with controller motion [Right click game in library > Edit Steam Controller Configuration... > Delete the binding for the icon on the left side that looks like the infinity figure 8].
Able to fully playthrough start to finish with zero errors and 60+ fps. Had to use ESYNC tweak before to get game to launch and not instantly crash; however no longer occurs with newer proton versioning, atleast on current 4.2-2 no issues at all!
