Crashes on initial load screen
The launcher loads just fine but pressing play game causes the game to crash on initial load screen. Tried with WineD3D and other fixes reported by other players but nothing works. It either crashes on load screen or does not load at all.
Have also tried Proton 4.2-9 with similar results.
Crashing on colonizing a planet
I tried again to launch the game with 4.2-9 and disabling DXVK and this time the game actually started. Not sure what was different from last time I tried.
Tried the tutorial and the game constantly crashes upon colonizing the first planet (first step in the tutorial).
Have not bothered trying a normal gameplay since others have also reported frequent crashing.
I got the "Context3D" error until I did the fix reported by nouveau_driver_usr. Once it's running there were no issues at all.

Only installed the game and played the first few minutes of the tutorial but everything seemed to be working just fine.
Everything works flawlessly except for episode 2 which is unplayable. Probably a video dependancy missing in Proton which cause this issue
Episode 2 is unplayable. There is a video at the start of the episode that never plays and prevents you from playing this episode.
Runs perfectly well on Proton now. With latest game updates as well as newest Proton the random crashes are becoming more and more rare.
Slight performance degradation compared to running in Windows
Intermittent and very random crashes. Can work fine for 5 hours then crash within 30 minutes in a different play session
