Built in benchmark, using HUB performance settings and ultra draw distance.
Proton DX11: 10.94ms 91.41fps
Win DX11: 11.29ms 96.71fps
Win DX12: 7.88ms 126.87fps
There is some stuttering when you first enter the game / new zone that -notexturestreaming
resolves. Unfortunately this dramatically (>2x) increases load times.
Load times are still disappointing, with proton taking ~39sec to start the benchmark, compared to windows 22sec.
Proton-5.8-GE-2-MFe runs the game, with a small performance hit (~88fps) and some textures (mostly weapons) missing / not loaded.
Near identical frame rate as when running under windows 10 on the same machine.
Borderless window mode is best; there were some glitches when switching focus from/to fullscreen.
Required to run: cd ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/BorderlandsGOTYEnhanced/Binaries/Win64 ; mv Launcher.exe Launcher.exe.donotwant ; ln -s BorderlandsGOTY.exe ./Launcher.exe
Poor frame rate at 4K however no different to Windows.
Consistent: unity progress bar pops up and the game crashes after several minutes of play.
After exiting the game, it hangs and requires manual termination.
gamemoderun mangohud %command% -dx11
Shaders appear to compile on first use however they are cached.

Performance very close to windows
Works out of the box, no messing around.
Noticeable framerate drops when:
- opening chests
- firing a new weapon for the first time
- entering an area
