Disabling steam overlay seemed to stop the stutterings when entering a new room

Steam overlay doesn't work with the game, so going to Properties -> Controller and changing to "Use default settings" was required to use one properly.
Sometimes the game launches and stays either at a white or black screen, restarting usually solves it though.

I did not get stuck compiling shaders but my game would compile them every single time I ran the game, following these steps helped: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/5495#issuecomment-1039454418
