Game ran flawlessly after install, no major problems in 6 hours of gameplay. Works as expected, did not crash at all.
Slight vibration of the material and output slots for the backpack printer. Only happened when the slots were empty, and did not affect usage at all.
Still runs completely flawless without any modifications
I previously did a report on this game using pop os, where it worked perfectly. I am now using manjaro (a different distro based on a completely different type of linux, pop os is ubuntu based, manjaro is arch based), and I am adding this report for this os as well, just so it is covered, and because there seem to be varying results with the game I thought it might be helpful to share my experience using a different os. Both pop os and manjaro still work absolutely perfect, no modifications needed, and I have found I can turn the graphics up a bit more on both linux distros, likely because of how much lighter linux is than windows. If you should decide to try playing this game on linux, it's unlikely you'll run into problems.
It works!
The native version of the game (not proton) runs, and I did not test with proton because the native version worked. I will say that I did not play for very long in my testing, I went as far as the menu, briefly messed with the ship design menu, and briefly ran a campaign level. In my relatively brief testing I didn't notice any problems, but I don't have extensive playtime to attest to whether it crashes after a period of time. At least it is working, as before this game used to not even launch. I should also note: in order for the game to launch you have to use the "run through istrolid.sh" launch option. Using the standard "Play Istrolid" option causes steam to think the game is running, but it never opens. The way to get this option is to launch the game from the steam library, not from the desktop shortcut or taskbar, and it will give you the option "run through istrolid.sh". You should pick that one.
The game itself actually runs pretty well, though there are some minor problems
Free flight menu is a black screen except for the aircraft preview which shows normally. Buttons will show up when hovered over so navigating the menu is still possible if you know where they are. In game, none of the menu text is visible at all, only the background and the actual buttons, interestingly enough. They still work and will open menu windows, but have no text.
Viewing tooltips and some aircraft interactions (namely radio frequency selection and the knob on the gps in my experience) cause the game window to be unfocused. This pauses the simulation in both fullscreen and windowed modes and causes fullscreen to minimize. You can probably fix this by running in windowed mode and turning off pausing when the window isnt in focus (found in settings).
Tested with proton 6.3-4 and proton experimental. The game runs pretty smoothly outside of the minor graphical glitches. If you run it in windowed mode and don't mind not being able to see the menus, I think this game can be considered playable.
Runs perfectly on proton 5.13-4, even without protontricks
ui scale defaults to be very tiny (at least in my 1080p resolution), but this is easily fixed by just adjusting the ui scale in the pause menu. no impact on gameplay whatsoever
most previous reports of this game describe using the protontricks command to install dotnet in order for the game to work. I did not do this and it ran just fine, though your mileage may vary based on your os and/or hardware
Perfectly stable run out of the box, honestly deserves to be a platinum game imo
There seems to be a very minor performance discrepancy from windows, but given that I run the game on low settings on windows, I don't see this to be an issue on higher end hardware.
This was tested on proton experimental, out of the box with no modifications. There was at one point an issue with this game when running on the experimental version of proton where the game would run completely fine for a few minutes but suddenly and inexplicably crash. This problem seems to have been fixed, as I was able to play the game for multiple hours without crashing, until I intentionally exited the game. I do want to note that I did not attempt to use fullscreen, so I cannot give a report on how well that works. However, the windowed mode works exactly as expected.
