Runs poorly with default settings, had to select 'Potato' quality and still getting stutters at 30fps. Massive stuttering when the simulation runs and blocks are being destroyed. Does not support 16:9 resolutions lower than 1280x720
Custom layout
- Back Grips: Save/Load management
- A: I (Inventory)
- B: . (Skip current line)
- X: K (Telekinesis)
- Y: Space Bar (Hotspot indicator)
- Left trackpad: Radial Wheel (Quick settings)
- F8 (Settings)
- M (Mute)
- T (Voice/Subtitle On/Off)
Requires some tinkering for controls to feel comfortable. Point-and-click nature involves a lot of joystick/trackpad use and thus sensitivity/controls might need to be tweaked per player.
Other than switching layouts the game itself runs fine
Optionally enable FSR
Controls seemed to work in menus but not in-game
F6/F9 optional for quick saving/loading
Mouse cursor can be hidden if distracting from game settings under Overlay > Cursor
With defaults the game launches with an initial DOSbox window but launches fine afterwards. However, you cannot change settings in-game as compared to the Luxtorpeda version. After setting up Luxtorpeda and switching layouts, the game itself runs well and I haven't noticed any glitches so far with either Proton or Luxtorpeda.
DXVK=0 (disabled)
- A: Z (Jump), B: C (Punch), X(Sword), Y: D (High Punch)
- Menu: Escape, Menu (Long Press): F2 (Options), Start: Enter, Start (Double Press): Alt + Enter (Fullscreen toggle)
- Dpad down: S (Weapon)
- Left Joystick: Dpad Arrow Keys
- Limit to 30fps
- 5W TDP Limit
- GPU Clock Frequency: 500MHz
Locked to 4:3
Minor instability in menus, otherwise works okay
In the menu I have to hold the stick to be able to select them
Clicking while in the menu crashes the game
Had to switch Steam Deck's controls to keyboard and mouse for co-op to work with an additional controller
Controls get stuck in menus even though they've worked with the default layout before
Works natively, no tinkering needed. Force native compability in case it's not chosen automatically
Per-game profile:
- 30 FPS (60 Hz)
- TDP Limit: 12W
- Scaling Filter FSR
In-game settings:
Display:
- Display mode: Windowed
- Resolution: 960x600
- V-Sync: On
- Limit Framerate in Background: On
Quality:
- Anti-Aliasing: FSR2
- FSR/Texture/Shadows/Fog Quality/Distant Objects: Performance
- Indirect Lighting/Reflections/Small Foliage: Balanced
- Contact Shadows/Volumetric Shadow Quality/Voxel Detail/Tessellation/Point Light Shadows: Off
- SSAO: Off/Performance
Changing to a custom preset had the effect of sometimes disabling assigned binds when utilizing a combination of inputs. It could also be an overlap or context sensitive issue.
Open outdoor areas seem to drop FPS slightly but the game feels rather playable even sub-30s. Frametimes look smooth according to Mangohud, no sudden spikes that I've noticed so far.
Even with sub-30s the gameplay feels rather smooth and enjoyable. Frametime isn't spiking all over despite low FPS and will probably improve with a few rounds of optimization. No significant bugs/instability encountered in 4 hours of playing so far.
Only real issue I had was with the overlap of inputs when I rebound inputs and as a result had some of the binds stop working when using combinations of inputs. Even so, the ability to bind two inputs in-game is simply amazing and reduces the need to tinker with Steam Input significantly. The game also prompts for the virtual keyboard correctly so you can enter character and map names easily. Overall, the controller support feels real solid and intuitive.
After getting past the launcher the game plays great
Use of touchscreen/mouse is required in the initial launcher if you want to change settings. You can use the shortcuts without having to edit the layout to get past the launcher
- Steam + R Stick for mouse
- Steam + R Dpad for Enter (Play)
Use shortcuts to get past the launcher.
Plays fine with KBM. Text is small but readable
Some of the dialog/informational text can be difficult to read from further away. Changing the resolution to Safe Mode makes the game a little more zoomed in if you're having difficulty reading the text. Alternatively, use of the magnifier is recommended.
Might need to adjust your keybindings since the game has lots
- Weapons: Radial menu for weapons 1-10
- Customize keybinds for map markers, inventory management etc to suit your playstyle
Optionally enable FSR
Walls of text can be difficult to read especially with FSR on.
Enable controller support from the menus and then restart with the default controller layout. I had some issues with controller's axis locking while in-game but playing with KBM seems to work fine
Switch to KBM and optionally choose Vulkan as preferred rendered in in-game options.
Controller not detected but switching to KBM works
Switching to KBM works
Custom Layout
- Y: I (Inventory)
- Y (Long press): C (Character)
- X: F (Action)
- B (Long press): \ (Sheath)
- Dpad Up: P (Party)
- Dpad Left: Q (Quests)
- Dpad Down: Backspace (View Orders)
- Dpad Right: R (Toggle FPV)
- Left trackpad: Radial menu (Orders) F1-F11
- Right trackpad: Radial menu (Select units) 1-5
Launcher requires use of mouse but doesn't prevent the game from launching
Works OOTB. Even has specific control layout that works well
Relies a lot on mouse interaction so you may want to tweak the layout for some QoL changes.
No audio issues on the native version
Switched to KBM as controller was not detected but otherwise I didn't have issues others have mentioned
Smallish HUD and occasional crashes with FSR on but playable without tinkering (solo + local co-op works OOTB)
Menus are readable but in-game HUD can be difficult to pay attention to.
Initial loading screen starts up with a blank rectangle with game art bordering it. This doesn't however affect cut-scenes and in-game movies.
Toggling FSR on before disabling fullscreen seems to have some stability issues and occasionally reboots the Steam Deck
Game recognized my 8bitdo Pro2 bluetooth gamepad and all the mappings were correct. Might have an impact on power draw/performance but overall very playable.
If using FSR, make sure to turn off fullscreen mode in the game settings first.
Simply install via Discover and add to Steam via the application launcher
After remapping controls the game runs beautifully and supports importing your tracks as well
Custom layout
- Both trackpads As Mouse (left), left trackpad click as Left Mouse Click (toggleable)
- Both triggers as Left Mouse Click
- Left joystick as Scroll Wheel Up/Down, Right joystick touch as gyro activator
Mouse gets stuck in incorrect boundaries in the menus but quickly moving the mouse to opposite edges helps
Aside from the mouse getting stuck everything else works fine
Custom layout
Edited layout to match game's default ones
Another case where native titles don't seem to recognize Steam Input
The game itself runs perfect and is playable after tweaking controls.
No issues. Relies heavily on mouse as PnC games do
Capped frames to 30 as point-and-click games tend to be slower paced
- Dpad Up/Left/Down for Build/Harvest/Research menus, respectively
- Left Trackpad as Touch Menu (Touch Release) for keyboard shortcuts 1-6
- Left Joystick touch as Shift (for building multiple structures)
Capped to 30fps (optional, runs well at 60)
Tutorial tips and UI is too small to be read comfortably but using the magnifier helps
Occasional frame drops at 800p@60, locked 60 with FSR on
Dialog, subtitles and the interface itself are too small to comfortably read without using a magnifier, whereas tutorial tips can be read fine.
When creating a character the game uses its own method for inputting name but trying to type anything simply crashes the game every time. Setting the game to lower resolution disables the game's input detection and enables the use of SteamOS's keyboard which works during character creation, after which the resolution can be changed back.
Using the in-game keyboard to type crashes the game
- Switched Shift to Left Bumper
Steam Deck
- Framerate limit: 30
- TDP limit: 8 watts
In-Game
- High preset
Moving into new areas might present stuttering
Gameplay is just fine at 30fps aside from occasional stuttering
