Tinkering required, Steam could definitely take a few simple steps to ship the game functional from the start, but nevertheless, it can run.
~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/'Proton 6.3'/proton waitforexitandrun ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/assettocorsa/'Content Manager Safe.exe'; echo %command%
Bounds for a gamepad were incorrect out of the box and couldn't be changed from the Content Manager UI - you've got to launch the game normally, then go to the input settings, select a profile (xbox gamepad for example), and click save. Wheel worked perfectly out of the box.
Works as expected but Steam has some serious problems with this game.
Some minor issues with tiling window managers - I was unable to fullscreen the app until I went into settings and switched to fullscreen mode.
I was unable to find contribute to this game on protonDB without using the App ID. There is also an issue that even with 100% achievements, it does not could towards your 'Perfect Games'. I doubt this is an issue with Proton/Linux, but instead Steam itself.
It's a Valve game, what do you expect? :P
Works as expected, including achievements. But Steam has some serious problems with this game.
I was unable to find contribute to this game on protonDB without using the App ID, it also warned me that I don't seem to own this game when creating this contribution. The last issue is that even with 100% achievements, it does not could towards your 'Perfect Games'. This is not an issue with Proton/Linux, but Steam itself.
Game runs perfectly - I've also tested it in a Windows VM (/w GPU & NIC passthrough) and the experience was exactly the same.
Perfect
Good job Hello Games.
Great experience, mods work, no tinkering needed. I recomment r2mod for mod management though.
I have experienced no such issues as other people have mentioned here, the opposite actually, when running in a Windows VM (/w GPU & NIC passthrough), I experienced the exact same issues as people have outlined here, but not on Linux.
Played quite a few hours on Windows, now on Linux, the experience was essentially the same.
Even though Psyonix stopped Linux developement, proton comes through and makes playing this game not only possible, but enjoyable even at a competitive level (Diamond 2).
Game stutters/lags and is nearly unplayable, settings are not saved on exit, poor experience overall.
I'm worried that the lack of saved settings would also mean unsaved progress, but I haven't tested that yet.
Once you're actually playing, the FPS drops dramatically to 10-30FPS depending on the quality settings (low = 10, mid/high = 30). The stuttering is really bad, ano no settings are saved on exit.
