I had to run Lutris->EA-App->FIFA 21 to get proper Controller support. It took a long time and it was weird. What a mess.
Disable DX12/VK3D. It'll crash on startup "GPU DX12 hangup". DXVK works fine enough.
For some reason, on some startups there was no menu at all except top navigation tabs. You could hear sound when switching menu tiles/items but it was completely buggy.
These issues arrive simply because FIFA is a mess under the hood. You'll notice a lot of the same issues (bad startup, undetected controller etc.) on Windows as well.
The amount of tinkery is going to drop off most people. Only people who want to fix it because of the challenge and casual enjoyment of playing FIFA will fix it/try it. These aren't Linux specific problems. Most of the issues exist on Windows 10 as well. EA does not care, period.
If he or she follows the basic perfect instructions then sure but it's not a out-of-the-box expierence.
Installed V-Patch for various fixes, fps unlock and ultrawide support (https://github.com/VaanaCZ/LANVP). Installed (protontricks --gui): d3dcompiler_43 and 47 d3dx11_43 d3dx9_43 *Lots of fonts, just in case
I have an RTX 2060. 50-70fps with max. 100 FPS unlock are not normal. (The game is default hard-locked to 30fps anyway)
On startup, you can't select anything, you see a black wall so technically the game is not playable out of the box. I've forgotten how to fix this but I think I changed DX_9 to DX11 in path to your game (instead of common, choose compatdata) / aka steamapps/compatdata/110800/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/Rockstar Games/L.A. Noire/settings.ini At the bottom it should say Renderer:DirectX 11
Requires tinkering but the game itself is a mess to begin with and R* knows it. They don't care. When someone in the community can create a full fps unlock even without breaking the game speed as it is usually with hardcoded fps then you know you have zero idea what you are porting over.
Works natively, no complaining, but I felt as though I had graph. issues with OpenGL (1 nebula looked like a joke/low res). Not true though
It seems as though the game will not run DX11 out of the box, disable fullscreen and vsync
DX11 and fullscreen have some big issues. I have no idea how I got it to work. Maybe it's borderless
DX11 is a MASSIVE issue, not with this game but with PARADOX Laucher! Start the game without paradox and force dx11, it will work. Start the game with dx11 & Paradox launcher and it will crash on startup.
Paradox seriously needs to integrate online features into the game itself, rather than force the use of a launcher, that won't work with DX11. (DX9 works )
Because of one low res nebula, I thought native opengl was bad and spend days fixing proton dx11 comp. Turns out it jad the same issue. Sadly though Paradox Launcher is such a mess that DX11 comp. is a miracle if it works.
All in all, stay with either Native OpenGL 2.1 or proton DX9 max. If you want DX11 support good luck or contact paradox to fix their launcher (or launch directly without launcher=no cloud save&dlc)
