Those complaining about the new launcher probably had the same issue I did where upon updating, the new launcher will not load. However you do not need to use an older proton version if you are willing to reinstall the game. Back up your game settings from the proton prefix directory and uninstall then reinstall the game. Once installed again, there are no issues with default proton even without launch commands. Works perfectly.
FMOD_ALSA_DEVICE=pulse %command%
Borked even wih the tinker step: FMOD_ALSA_DEVICE=pulse %command%
Borked Audio
Audio used to work for this game (5 years ago). The only change I have done is change from PulseAudio to Pipewire but other FMOD driven games work fine with some requiring the FMOD_ALSA_DEVICE=pulse %command% tinkering step. Nothing I have tried has worked to get audio going with Project: Gorgon.
Force the game to use the correct sound card from your system sound settings if ther is no audio
The game uses FMOD which is not good at detecting your default sound card and may require the user to force the game to output to the correct device via the operating system sound settings.
Some users may not have the issue with FMOD especially if they only have one sound card. If FMOD chooses the incorrect sound card, it may not be clear to the average user (or even advanced users) that the game audio is working correctly at all. This could lead to refunds for new players and uneeded bug reports to the game authors sunce they do not creat the FMOD audio library and cannot fix it to the best of my knowledge.
I had no issues at all using the default proton version which at the time of writing is 9.x.
Install the Easy "Anti-Cheat runtime" from the tools category of Steam Library
I saw reports of a recent update breaking the game which was possibly related to Easy Anti-cheat. With that in mind I installed the Easy Anti-Cheat Runtime from my steam library via the tools category. Other users reported audio issues which I did not experience. As far as frame drops go, I had no issues as well as no texture or graphical glitches. Overall the game ran perfectly with even the image uploading for automatic character creation working flawlessly. I do however have many random dependencies installed from having this system installed for quite awhile.
One of those dependiencies is FAudio which is described as the following: "FAudio aims to accurately replicate the sound processing of Microsoft's XAudio2, a part of the DirectX API used for audio playback on Windows. This is particularly important for gaming, where accurate audio reproduction is crucial, and is instrumental in improving the compatibility and performance of Windows games on Linux systems.".
This could be a reason why I and others did not report audio glitches and why some users did. I suggest checking out the Arch Wiki or other sources for a list of common packages that are installed for games to function properly as this could fix the graphical glitches as well. Those having a choppy gameplay experience may or may not have allowed shaders to compile before launching the game which would drastically improve performance.
Overall I my experience was good enough for me to give the game a platinum rating which is pretty cool considering that this game just released.
