Crashes every 2-3 hours in multiplayer. Singleplayer not tested. Make sure to save frequently.
Occasional desyncs, unrelated to Proton.
The SupportTool.exe trick listed below is no longer required and will prevent you from playing online multiplayer.
Used the following launch flags: PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command% -width 1920 -height 1080 -nomemrestrict -norestrictions -percentvidmem 100 -availablevidmem 8192 -noprecache -novblank
The -availablevidmem should be changed to match your vram in MB
Also used XLiveLess from the following link: https://github.com/AccountOneOff/lutris_files/raw/master/xlive.dll Simply place this in your GTA IV directory. i.e. $STEAM/steamapps/common/Grand Theft Auto IV/GTAIV
Crackling is only heard for a brief moment when ringtone goes off.
The on-screen prompts switch from controller to keyboard controls when not moving the sticks on the controller. This is not an issue for keyboard/mouse only players.
This makes navigating the phone difficult. To work around this, you have to push the left stick in any direction while interacting with the phone, otherwise press down on the d-pad will close the phone.

I used protontricks to install corefonts, fakechinese, and allfonts. I am not sure if any of these are necessary, however.
When start the game for the first time, the game will think its in fullscreen but it's in a borderless window instead. This results in the mouse cursor and the place you click being slightly out of sync. This can be fixed in the options menu by going out and in of fullscreen.
Sometimes the WASD controls would not work, and you would have to use click navigation instead. This was fixed after I changed set LANG=zh_CN, however.
The game uses Tencent Protect but was able to initialize and start without any issues.
Try setting the locale first, then if the fonts aren't rendering properly use protontricks to install the fonts. The fonts I downloaded were corefonts, fakechinese, and allfonts, but I think this might be overkill.
