Report was updated to reflect upgrade to Linux Kernel 5.0.
Depending on version, will not initialize anything 3D or not start at all
Proton 4.11-9 : Refuses to show the start screen, loads briefly and then crashes. Proton 4.2-9 & 3.16-9 : Shows the main menu, but when attempting to load 3D assets such as in the driver select menu, it will crash.
Game Initializes by following Abe's settings but crashes on starting.
I've tried with the F-18 module, and used the same settings, but during module initialization (Not world initialization), DCS crashes with a bug report window.
The game works outside of a few problems.
Occasional audio crackling but it's for the most part unnoticeable.
Firstly, obviously EAC is not supported, though I've heard reports that they are working on getting a Proton port of EAC working and in compliance with their Windows and Linux versions.
Secondly, for some reason, Co-op play is extremely unstable both as a client and a host. If you plan to play Co-Op at this time, I advise you proceed with caution.
Steam Input does NOT work with this title. Do not play unless you have a Xbox 360 controller.
Game requires changes to user.cfg to be playable.
This thing is a dumpster fire. I wasted 5 hours trying to get this working, and I honestly want to throw my controller through EA's office window for this. The game works, yes - but the fact I had to go through so many hoops that in the end that it doesn't work - Made me issue a refund out of spite.
Does not start
I have tried both the current version of Proton and the last version available, to no luck.
Proton 5.21 Glorious Eggroll Build 1 (https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/5.21-GE-1) GloriousEggroll
Requires d3dcompiler_47 package from protontricks using this command:
protontricks 895870 d3dcompiler_47
Performance can vary drastically, especially impacted by alt-tabbing or changing graphics settings in game.
There have been reports of performance issues on Windows as well, so it may be suggested that potential Linux buyers wait until the patches are pushed for it.
Runs Perfectly
Regarding custom aircraft:
Due to the nature of .splane files (the files used for user made vehicles), you will have to manually load the files in by loading the aircraft into the game by using the splane file's ID (found within the .splane file or in the plane's URL (shown in hard brackets) (https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/[ZG93Mg]/Lockheed-Martin-F-16D-Block-60)).
This can be done in the designer by copying the ID, and ingame, pressing CTRL-L. Once done, the game will download the plane data like you would on Windows.

Slight popping and stuttering of audio.
Grass geometry seems corrupt.
One crash during multiplayer gameplay, though mods could be a contributing factor.
