The game doesn't run for me, not a menue even. It immediately complains about missing exe and awaits "Close" to be pressed.
The game is borked for me. When I try to run it, it immediately complains about a missing exe and all which can be done is closing it.
Note: Validation didn't help. Experimental Proton was auto-chosen as a fallback default (non tinkering)
The error: "An error occured while launching the game : missing executable /home//.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/AiM Windowsx86_64/Aim Windowsx86_64/Adventures in Morality An Interactive Case Study.exe" [Close]
Seems to work great, but since proton version 5.0-1 you might need to add launch flag. (as Direct3D 9 games will default to DXVK)
Worked great but only with the specified launch flag, otherwise some areas in the game were invisible for me (allegedly needed to revert to OpenGL for this game and proton version)
As noted above, added the following to the game's Launch options: PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%

This is just a new proton version's report as it still behaves the same. As noted in a previous report, it worked fine for me but only with the specified launch flag (for this game specifically), otherwise some areas/textures were invisible.
As noted, added the following to the game's Launch options: PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
No real issue which wasn't easily solvable by a simple settings change in-game (UI scale). Game works flawlessly for my low end system.
An easily solveable issue: A resolution issue (using game + dawn masteries mod) - UI "screen" was "cut" on top. Very apparent in character, skills, stash and stores screens which is where I noticed that.
This was completely SOLVED by lowering the UI scale in display tab (or equivalent) in the settings until the UI "screen" fits fully.
This is probably a low resolution issue only. No real complain but noting as it may help people who just see some options/graphics on the top are silently "missed", in recognizng and solving the issue completely. (For example my resolution is 1366x768 so I loered the UI scale in display settings so that it's close to the left side, which had solved the issue. The amount of UI scaling needed differs on different resolutions.)
Noting since the repport was classified as tinker and possibly shouldn't have been:
The proton version is just a technicality and is not a specific recommendation: I tried to play the game with the current "defaults" for my system which is now defaulted to Proton Hotfix for non verified titles but without a forced version for the game itself. Proton Hotfix was chosen then "by default" on steam - probably just by the game being a non verified title. I don't know what the steam recommended version is in a default steam-play setup. As also specifically tested, game works with Proton GE or Proton Hotfix - but I didn't test it with experimental or regular. (Based on other reports this probably works fine).
The change in UI scale was needed in my low resolution case but may not be required on higher ones. I did try to play without that settings change and this didn't work well.
No other change was done or seemed needed. (the proton version is not a specific recommendation here, only the lowering of UI scale for low resolution screens when screen is "cut", is.)
One minor issue which doesn't affect game play: After restaring the game, it doesn't show your characters' classes on the UI but once starting the game on any char all is fine. No known effect on game play - all works flawlessly that way.
After pressing play, no game window/launcher opens. Game eventually exits.
While running the game was unsuccessful (no window/launcher opened after pressing play) it could be stopped from within the library, or it exits eventually by itself.
Tried running using current Defaut and then Experimental Proton versions, then Proton-6.19-GE-2 (Glorious Eggrol's proton fork) to no avail yet.
Haven't try to change any other setting yet. No tinkering was done beside trying some different proton versions.
This is an updated report. I validated game files and now game seems to run flawlesly. No issues found!
Please ignore my previous report here, since the issue was solved by validating game file and probably was on my side only.
Just a new system's out-of-the-box/steam play report to let users and developers know the game won't work out of the box on proton 4.11-7.
As stated on old reports, mouse clicks won't register on proton 4.11-7, launcher starts and character screen opens. Cursor seems to be the desktop's one (focusing issue?) so the player can't choose and play any character in the characters' screen or exit from it normally, though mouse can be moved. unsure how key strokes are registered or if mousekeys works.
Recommendation: Revert back to proton version 4.2-9 for now, this should work nicely.
On preliminary testing, the game seems to work fine out of the box.
The new proton version (4.11-8) solves the issue encountered with 4.11-7. Mouse clicks register again as those should. As far as I know, no workaround needed.
There is a temporary issue with the game itself, crushes and multiple bugs. It's usually a great game. Wait for a fix and recheck.
Since 12th of Nov 2019, while switching character, chat system doesn't connect, friend list is probably frozen since the first logged in character. SOME players are experiencing crashes and freezes/unable to login, and it's a known issue which wasn't fully addressed yet. Chat issue is symptomatically solved by reloging.
Game seems "buggy" by many means since the 12th of November, as if one doesn't know what to expect anymore and what was affected. Some old bugs returned, some players experienced extreme network instability, there is an EV suit related bug (being unable to remove visual or use?), some may experience server not responding or "rubber banding" issues. There are many new known issues since that date, including headless bridge officers, reputation choice rewards and others. This report is not fully accurate but it's as accurate as I could and I think this information should be posted here. I'd recommend to wait until things are stabilized for windows and to see if the chat offline system issue is solved also for linux.
The issues are not relevant specifically to this proton version, I think, but to the current state of the game, which temporarily doesn't work ideally now on any system. A wait is recommended for new players before trying it let alone assessing its status on linux, which is not officially supported.
Chat offline bothers MMORPG or alting. If you are not affected / can handle it / have only one character, it's still recommended.
Used Lane's advice and added export SDL_VIDEO_MINIMIZE_ON_FOCUS_LOSS=0; %command% as a Launch option to the game
having an issue with steam layout despite having it enabled - can see steam layouts notifications but can't switch to it from the game itself. screenshots could not be taken by steam probably for a related reason. (it's a 64 bit system)
Chat system along with team searching still can't successfully reconnect after a char switch as noted in previous reports: You can't see or type any text after you switch characters. Friend list is only having the accounts which were logged in before you switched a character, frozen since. After a char switch online friends see you also as being offline. This all is critical to alting and teamplay, and solved symptomatically by re-logging.
Some recent bugs were fixed but some other bugs which were considered fixed are not so, such as a filtering option on the bank and inventory which hinders the view of inventory and bank, possibly until interacting with it or with tabs in the current char's login.

This is an update of a previous report as I noticed some issues were solved. The following issue still presents: Chat system along with team searching still can't successfully reconnect after a char switch as noted in previous reports: You can't see or type any text after you switch characters. Some bugs were fixed just recently, overall the game experience is better than even a few days ago.
