Latest Proton Experimental has made some DX12 apps/games such as this working.
Running Native Linux version
Framerate was capped to 50
Framerate was capped to 50 and it was barely using any resources on my CPU and GPU, so the performance on my VR headset was choppy. I'm using Valve Index.
I disabled the mirror window option on desktop and the performance is now great!
So, on the desktop: Google Earth VR window -> Options -> disable Mirror window. VoilĂ !
I'm running without proton enabled, so I'm assuming it's native to Linux.
Currently needs launch commands to be modified to run the game
I had to set launch commands on Steam:
For AMD GPU I had to launch the game with: VK_ICD_FILENAMES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/radeon_icd.x86_64.json %command%
For Nvidia GPU I had to launch the game with: VK_ICD_FILENAMES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/nvidia_icd.json %command%
To make Mangohud work with any games, I had to add: NODEVICE_SELECT=1 mangohud %command%
So my launch parameters ended looking like this on AMD GPU:
VK_ICD_FILENAMES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/radeon_icd.x86_64.json NODEVICE_SELECT=1 mangohud %command%
Crackling in VR with Valve Index. Happens in most games, when computer is stressed hard.
Playing in VR, this game stutters a little bit, but probably due to insufficient GPU.
Works in VR, when using the latest Proton experimental. Using Monado as OpenXR runtime.
Works with Proton 5.13-6. Does not always recognize video formats. Manual selection needed.
If SteamVR resolution is set above 112%, the right eye is rendered wrong. 112% or lower, and the game works great.
When the right eye drawing is fixed, this game could work nicely on Proton.
Game starts, you can "play" it, BUT! Right eye is not drawn correctly. Left eye is OK. Unplayable. At this moment the game is not recommended. Using Valve Index.
The VHS problem is solved in Proton 9.0. Now should work without issues or tinkering.
