Can't get past the graphic settings part, pressing anything freezes the game. Alt-tabbing also freezes the game.
Tried GE's fork and proton experimental, neither work, and stable proton only gives a black screen.
Using gamemode with MuQSS kernel
The interior had very weird / glitchy shadowing that doesn't appear on native / GE proton.
Got ~100FPS on native with medium-high settings while only ~70FPS with Proton and a lot of stutter when there's many things on the screen.
The game runs perfectly, Proton fork or not. Be aware that some older versions of Proton make the game lock at 60fps, while some don't.
Using Proton-6.19-GE-2 and TkG's custom kernel
Screen tearing and game locked to 60fps when secondary monitor (60Hz) is active, KDE Plasma.
gamemoderun %command%
WM: XMonad 0.17.0.9, ewmh
Seems to work better with GE7-10 than stock 7.0.1. On stock, if I change workspaces or get an external notification (e.g Discord message, even on dnd), and in general if there's an external activity happening the game may or may not start stuttering hard. Pausing or changing workspaces and going back into the game fixes it. Does not happen on the GE fork, making it more playable for me. Stock still works nearly perfect though, if not that.
There can be crackling, although it can be helped with 'PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=5 %command%'
The game kept crashing earlier, found out I had to increase how many file descriptors I have.
This can help: https://github.com/zfigura/wine/blob/esync/README.esync
After increasing the number, it was alright.
gamemoderun %command% v_blankmode = 0
The game requires the Visual C++ 2019 Runtime, which has to be installed using protontricks 824270 vcrun2019
.

Issue
№ 1
Most of the time, I am required to use the Super + Alt + kp-up
Gnome shortcut to display all workspaces/desktops and change from there, as after pressing Alt-Tab
the game gets focus instantly again.
№ 2
The game is launched with one or two extra windows, both labeled "OpenGL Renderer", that are empty but can be occasionally focused on.
The game runs at an acceptable framerate over 144fps for me, without any graphical glitches, and is seamless if not the windowing issues.
If not the described crashing and fullscreen issues I've had, this plays just like a native game, GE proton or upstream.
gamemoderun %command%
Turning off fullscreen in the settings froze the game, forcing me to SIGKILL it. SIGTERM was not enough. Interestingly, this was not always happening, and after re-downloading the game with fullscreen turned off by default, it went away.
Crashed randomly a few times, although this might be a thing with my hardware, I believe.
Using Gnome wayland session with amdgpu, maybe that has any influence on the crashes.
Set r_rhirenderfamily "vulkan"
in Id1/config.cfg
, running through dx11 makes it stuck on a black screen.
The (misleading) "original" version that still uses GL launches, but has graphical artifacts and movement does not work.
Main menu on "original" has heavy artifacts, rendering it unreadable.
