Upon pressing START in the main menu, the game gets stuck on an endless "loading dlc" screen, whether you have dlc or not. Exiting the game through steam and restarting fixes this issue.
Refuses to launch when connected to the official Dock. Different proton versions did not help.
I did not encounter the controller issue cited by other users. Steam deck controls work fine.
Manipulating the joystick deadzone slider seems to also change the response curve, which is not availble as a separate option. The controls take some fine tuning to eventually arrive at something that is half decent.
In my experience Night Dive studios have a bad record with implementing decent controller support, Quake 2 Enhanced is no exception. The controls are functional but not great. However their remastering work here is impeccable as always. Highly recommend.
Controllers are not detected properly, certain inputs are unresponsive. Proton experimental fixes this issue.
Performance on default "modern" preset fluctuates wildly between 20 and 60 fps. Switching to "retro" solves the issue by seemingly degrading resolution and applies a crt filter. There are no individual graphic settings, only presets.
Switch to Proton Experimental for controller fix. "Retro" preset for stability, this gives the game a PS2 look which might trigger severe nostalgia.
The game is pretty heavy on the battery. Limiting fps to 30 saves on some much needed battery life.
This game is an unoptimized mess, even on consoles. Can maintain 40fps lock about 75% of the time, expect dips here and there. No dips below 30fps though.
Recommend locking to 30fps and lowering TDP slightly for stability and battery life.
Text can be difficult to read, but not illegible.
Can do a 30fps lock with Highest settings. 40fps lock with High.
Latest proton build no good. Switch to Proton 7.0-6
Switching to Proton 7.0-6 is absolutley essential, otherwise the game will crash upon loading save games.
Load game crashes will persist with Enemy Within. Switch to Proton 7.0-6 to fix the issue.
