Some setup required especially post-patch, but once that's done game plays quite well on the Deck.
-d3d11
Cards with more text can be difficult to read, not too bad though.
Cloud saves are not supported so as other reports have mentioned you need to create the hook-up manually. Works perfectly after that.
Game worked fine pre-patch. After first post-release patch, crashed immediately when loading into an existing save. Forcing the game to use DirectX11 fixed this - also switched to Proton 6.3-8 because users online said this helped with stuttering. Unsure if this is actually required to keep the game running smoothly, but the DirectX11 switch definitely is. Have not had any crashes since setting this up.
Unplayable out of the box especially if you're playing on more than one device. After tinkering, runs at a consistent 30fps or more on Low settings which looks and feels perfectly fine.
Once CryoUtilities been installed and VRAM increased, crashing no longer occurs and the game plays great.
Text is small on the rare card that contains lots of it. Not that bad though, still very playable.
Mouse cursor always appears onscreen with default controls - switch to "Gamepad with Mouse Trackpad" and you can move the cursor offsceen.
Cloud saves are not supported unless you set up the link yourself.
Even with CryoUtilities and VRAM increase, needed to use -d3d11 command to force the game to open with DirectX11, otherwise it crashed on initial load. Without CryoUtilities and VRAM increase, game is essentially unplayable and crashes frequently.
As others have said, CryoUtilities and VRAM increase are essential to playing this game. Once all tinker steps are complete the game runs really well and I've put a lot of time into it on the Deck as a result.
Similar small annoyances as with FC, but mostly works well out of the box.
I often couldn't open the game from steam, i needed to open the secondary launch window and then start the game from there.
occasional crackling, only happened in one or two sessions and restarting fixed it.
Often didn't pick up the d-pad for whatever reason - ended up mapping analog stick controls to the d-pad as well and this fixed it, though meant i had to run everywhere instead of walking (not really a problem)
Generally works very well, I played through the entire game just on my Deck. Like FC, some of the videos play too slowly, leading to the audio ending before the video is complete - this is primarily an issue with the intro cutscene and most of the other ones are fine. Configuration tool is annoying to have to deal with especially if you're trying to play docked, but it's a minor issue in the grand scheme of things. Wouldn't recommend boosting the resolution any higher than 1920x1080 - when I tried to bump it to 1440p to match my TV resolution, a bunch of the UI got messed up. Still looks pretty sharp even at 1080p though, so not a huge deal.
Same relatively minor issues as the two games preceding it; overall a very good experience on the Deck
For me the default text size was too small, but you can turn on bigger text in the Controller Layout Tool that the game comes with which fixes this.
Occasional skipping, very rare.
There's one specific text choice near the end of the game which doesn't seem to work with controller, I had to use touchpad input to select it. Like with the other two games, also had issues with the d-pad on the Deck itself, and on a separate controller when docked, not getting picked up sometimes.
A couple other issues to note which I didn't have space to in previous sections. These are true for the previous two games in the series as well:
- Have to select resolution from the Controller Layout Tool which doesn't accept input from a gamepad. Not a huge deal but a bit of a pain if you're switching between playing docked/portable and would've been nice for these settings to be in the game proper.
- Animated cutscenes run at half-speed. There are even less of these in this one than in previous games, so it's a minor issue.
Went into game's own controller config layout window to set resolution to 1200 x 800
Used the controller layout
Played through all of Ys I on my Deck with no issues.
Ys I works flawlessly. Ys II has issues with cutscenes so either play them on a PC or just watch them online - there are only 2 in the game.
Ys II cutscenes do not work. However, there are only two in the whole game - the intro and ending - and the corrupted intro at least can be skipped through by holding the B button. Ending probably the same, not totally sure as I didn't finish the game on the Deck.
Played through both of these games pretty much entirely on the Deck and had a great time doing so.
