Enabled back grip buttons for bashing and for pinging as I found it made it easier than pressing in the sticks
Most of the text, especially on the cards were hard to read and I had to bring the deck closer to my face to be able to read them. Subtitles in game can be adjusted to be bigger however.
Other than in game issues (other people disconnecting), I had no issues
The game has ended its roadmap- it will not be receiving any further DLC as the developers are moving onto their next game. Back 4 Blood will still receive "updates", but the community doesn't know if this will just be bug fixes or if there will be any further content added to the game. Saying that, there's loads of content to be enjoyed and the game can also be played offline with progression (I enjoyed being able to play while commuting to work as I can't always get a stable internet connection).
Game worked out of the box and runs fantastic. Will cause the fans to start revving up after ~40m of gameplay with around a 2h battery.
I removed the functionality of the right trackpad to avoid accidentally cycling though my inventory if slightly brushed past the trackpad when moving the joystick
Would highly recommend changing the game speed setting down from 100% in general settings- this makes the in game clock run slower so days don't go by as fast. It allows you to get more done in a day, energy dependant, without any changes to gameplay.
The game is enjoyable, almost everything can be accessed by the trackpad and triggers for the mouse.
Added easy buttons for inventory (I) and the stagecoach (Z) I also added back buttons of shift and alt for easy access.
Loading times took slightly longer than expected, especially on first start-up (game took 5m of blank screen after Red Hook logo to begin)
I kept a consistent 45-60fps, with drops on some animations in combat but other than that very stable and never noticed significant drops in frames.
Slight input delay playing survivor for skill checks, very minor though.
I'm so glad that this game is finally able to be played on deck. I have 1.2k hours, but after selling my PC and being gifted a Steam Deck I couldn't be happier to be able to play again.
There is an in-game UI and subtitle slider however even at the highest option, text for options is still a little small.
Slight stuttering upon game start while assets load in
At time of reviewing, I am playing the open beta and not the finished product.
Out of the box the game is not playable, constant freezing and stuttering became beyond annoying to just unplayable.
Unable to read the privacy notice when starting game due to text size
Game began and there was missing audio of explosions during the prologue. After pausing, the game then lost all audio and was silent.
Game stuttered through cutscenes, froze at loading zones, and took approximately 35s to open the pause menu.
Frequent stuttering and freezing where I was unsure if it would crash until it eventually did.
A slight warning- the game has slightly unintuitive UI/menu controls, with no "back" option and all buttons have the same interact function, and the joystick and d-pad with the movement function.
Some text is small, but still readable.
The starting cutscene stuttered and froze briefly, however had no issues after the cutscene finished. This could be due to the game in early access, rather than a Deck-related issue.
I changed the graphic settings from the default to "Low", and then adjusted the settings I cared about to be higher (draw distance mainly), as well as removing motion blur as I don't like it. After adjusting the graphic settings I am getting a consistent 60 FPS, however before I changed the settings it was closer to 30 with some moments of it dropping below. I've found no major issues with the game playing on deck and out of the box it is very playable.
The latest patch has fixed the previous issue that would reject all Linux players joining multiplayer lobbies.
Used back buttons for push to talk (V) and sprint (left bumper, as I found to hard to use LB and LT at the same time)
Some text was difficult to read regarding perk descriptions and the skill tree
Increase the brightness to max, lower the graphic settings to High rather than Ultra by default for more consistency but keep shadows as high as possible (this made seeing in dark areas easier for me).
