Using the medium graphics preset the game varies between 30-55fps while scrolling around maps but appears locked to 30fps in battles. high settings appears to run a little slower around the map and cause a few drops into the 20s in battles, low settings doesn't appear any better performance wise than medium. I can't really tell much difference in the graphics between medium and high but can between low and medium, so I leave it on medium. For the graphical style and animations, 30fps is more than sufficient, I only leave the frame rate capped higher than 30 to make scrolling around the map a litle smoother
Control scheme took a little getting used to but on the whole works well in game and most menus, pretty well optimised for controller play overall. Trying to get into the community maps menu though, the game appears to open a different window and the controls become unresponsive, so this menu appears to only work properly with M&KB controls

With the default settings, the game gets stuck at the loading screen. Works fine after switching to Proton Experimental.

Works perfectly out of the box.
Works perfectly out of the box. Nice game too. Even at 4k resolution, only the menus use 4k. All the rest (map, characters) is extremely low resolution. Still nice though, because the strategy is there. It is very similar to Heroes of might and magic 3, but with more choices and strategies. The music is nice.
Works great out of the box

Working out of the box
No tinkering and runs nicely

Great
The game runs well, however there's literally no optimization so don't expect a lot of FPS as of right now, other than that, no problems.
Flawless
Runs perfect without issues
Works great with no issues or tweaks

Install and play
proton 9
gamemoderun %command%

Stattering every second even in menu, on LMDE and Mint too. And on two different laptop.

MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=zink %command% gamemoderun %command% DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%
Stattering
Stuttering even in menu

Default Proton didn't work (Steam error popup "compatibility tool failed"), but GE-Proton works.
Songs of conquest runs perfectly fine on linux with no tinkering or technical stuff.

Works like a dream
165FPS VSynced, no bugs or visual glitches

Works out of the box on proton 9.0.1.
It launched without issues and I haven´t encountered any problems during gameplay (about 5 hours so far). I play on a vm with gpu passthrough. Graphics on high and it runs smoothly on a laptop 4070. Playing with the integrated gpu was slow and required the use of 'PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%' to avoid an error upon launch (DX11 error while setting resolution). I haven´t tested it on SteamDeck yet, though I suspect it will require lowering the graphics while playing with the dock on an external high resolution monitor.
Use Proton 9.0-1 or Experimental
Works great out of the box.

Without experimental the game starts but never reaches the main menu.

Easy start from box

Plays well appart from the occasional crash
3 crashes in around 40 hours
Has autosave but remember to save after big events
Perfect vanilla experience on Steam Deck just with a bit off feeling control scheme - community layouts to the resque!
Besides the controls felt a bit off with L2 being Left Click and R2 being Right Click (which is otherwise normal, just not for a game) the game run perfectly fine. Just downloaded the most used community layout (Steam Deck - Early Access) for the game and haven't looked back.Runs perfectly fine on Linux/SteamOS/SteamDeck.
I've had the game freeze my whole system once after alt-tabbing too much, had to reboot
switched to 40 Hz
works great, there's also bigger hud option for screens like deck's
Playthrough of the two campaigns, no issues.
Alt-tabbing works. Multiplayer may also work, but couldn't find games.

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Game version 0.78.4 (20221017). Some older version didn't require tinkering. The only drawback at that time was very interesting - campaign cutscenes were upside down. No such problem now.

Can't accept/proceed with dialogues getting stuck forever (on the very first mission).
big freeze frames during every AI turn phase in the standard campaign
some coop features are still experimental but that is the same on windows
with the very latest Proton Experimental the game does not launch and instead gives the following error. as it worked in the previous experimental version without problems i expect this will be fixed soon enough.
.
Failed to initialize player
- Failed to initialize graphics.
- Make sure you have DirectX 11 installed, have up to date drivers for your graphics card and have not disabled 3D acceleration in display settings.
- InitializeEngineGraphics failed

After completing a campaign mission, the cut scene does not play correctly at times.
Everything seems to work fine except for the misssing cut scenes, there is also another bug when exiting the game. It just hangs, so you have to go to the steamdeck menu to close the game
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Sometimes when ending a campaing combat the game got stuck in loading screen
Campaign song video was upside down. Subtitles were upright though.
Without the command provided, the game will crash due to "DirectX11 not installed" error.
Doesn't launch
Tried Proton Expiremental and Proton 7.0-3 and 5.0-10. No window is displayed on launch.
Use 7.03 stable instead of Experimental for now until new updates are rolled out.
With the recent patch, there is a known memory leak that occurs from time to time.
The 0.1 Simultaneous Turns update introduced some new issues such as crashes and memory leaks. This is not native to Linux or the Proton experience and should be patched later.
I was unable to get things to run with Proton Experimental, so I "downgraded" to the 7.03 stable branch and all is as well as can be.
Recent patch introduced some issues that should be patched later.
Runs just as well as the Windows version from my personal testing.
