With the default Dosbox config, the game ran fine; however, the audio would stutter constantly. Every 1-2 seconds, the audio would cut out for a faction of a second, then quickly "catch-up" in the next fraction of a second (everything sounds like "Alvin and the Chipmunks" for an instant). A bit funny at first, but extremely annoying.

I was able to fix this problem by increasing Dosbox's audio mixer's prebuffer:

prebuffer=100

With this fix in place, I'd say the game runs perfectly (after playing for a few hours, so far).
