Functions Mostly as It Should with Only Minor Inconveniences
The game doesn't like ALT+TABing when fullscreen is used; it causes the game to letterbox the screen. Use the borderless mode to avoid this.
The default control scheme doesn't take inputs from certain buttons; a community configuration is necessary to fix it.
At 4K, the framerate can fluctuate greatly (when Vsync isn't on)
The Vsync implementation is horrendous, so I had to turn it off; it added screen-tearing rather than removing it. Additionally, going to the Hollow Area always requires me to open the Steam overlay and close it in order to escape the tasks menu that always pops-up (both on Desktop and the Steam Deck). I don't know why, but this rubs off as a bug to me and I'm not sure what causes it.
The FPS fluctuates strangely depending on where you are and what's going on, but it isn't unbearable as long as your hardware is decent enough for a game this old and realatively simple.
The default "official" controller layout is kinda broken, on top of being unintuitive it will cause buttom prompts to come up as blank in some places, which makes the early tutorials very confusing. Just switch to the standard "Gamepad with trackpad" (or just "Gamepad", if using an external controller) before launching the game and the controller will be detected as a regular Xbox controller instead, you'll get standard prompts and console controls.
Default "official" controller layout is broken, on top of being unintuitive and missing a few things (like being able to use left on the D-pad), it will cause button prompts to show up as blank in some cases, which makes the early tutorials very confusing. Game works perfectly out of the box.
I have played with 1080p 60fps and with mouse/keyboard. Everything works without problems, including video/cutscenes and the achievements.
Note: I did not test the multiplayer.
Use Windowed Fullscreen to fix bad fullscreen resolution.
Game runs at lower internal resolution when using anything other than Windowed Fullscreen.
Played identically to when I play on Windows
Gameplay like is expected
When Starting the game (set to fullscreen or borderless) it minimizes to task bar, easily resolved by clicking on the icon on the taskbar (alt-tab dosnt work in this case)
Steam Controller Config has to be "Forced Off"
Game will load up perfectly (30 sec delay) after you put this launch option "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%"
Sometimes when you enter a new area, the textures won't load, so you have to go out and back into the new area to have the textures appear.
Minor choppy Frame rates despite a decent PC, but won't affect overall experience
It runs perfectly fine
The game runs ok but as the graphics are comparable to a psp, I think it's strange that some scenes make the game run at 45-50fps. Not a big problem because it's still very playable, it's just strange.
It seems to not be optimized, maybe it's only on linux but, as I haven't tried it on windows I can't know for sure.
Should work fine out of the box
A bit of framerate drops, compared to Windows 10
Just a few frame drops
Just run it and play, as easy as that. (Proton 4.11-11)
Works flawlessly once I put "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%" in the launch options. Very minor artifacts
Cannot return to game if alt-tabbed while in fullscreen. Windowed works flawlessly.
It takes 30-60 seconds on launch for the game to actually go fullscreen, but after that it runs beautifully. In my case I had to turn off vsync to reduce graphic stutter, but that appears to be specific to my system. Gameplay ran close to 240 fps for me, never even had a moment's stutter, and cutscenes and videos play just fine. Steam controller was recognized automatically and is directly supported by the game, including button prompts specific to that controller.
The game launches then immediately minimizes. I'm pretty sure I just need to run it in Borderless Windowed mode, but um unable to locate the game's config.ini even when looking in the steamapps/compatdata/ folders...
Did not manage to launch it with DXVK, with "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1" it works. Performance is not the best, but actually seems better than on Windows with the same GPU
Black window, can't focus window
