Extremely laggy when in a level; ~20fps and using a lot of cpu
i tried a lot of different launch options and proton versions, but they all gave the same result.
Works perfectly
Using an 8bitdo Pro 2 controller. Played a few levels with no issues.
Haven't had any issues so far after playing for several hours.
Seamless performance
Softlocks after scene changes.
Cutscenes and audio now work, and levels are playable individually, but the game softlocks upon scene/location changes, requiring a restart to proceed.
Played 3 hours out of the box and did not encounter any issues of any kind.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
Game works fantastically with Steam Deck by default.
One time after going into sleep mode the audio was very sped up. Seems like a very rare occurance. Fixed after restart
In-Game Controller Configuration Edit: Change the 2nd Attack binding to the button to B in game. This is because the attack button also acts as a back button. Makes menus more intuitive.
Works Perfectly
The visual controller bug I had was recently fixed, so it is no longer an issue. The game runs without any problems.
Runs near flawlessly no serious issues
Taskbar will flick on in KDE during loading
Audio output switched from Speakers to "echo sink" or something like that. Could not switch it back.
Had to remap controls. Up & Dow were shown as Left & Right while Left & Right were shown as stick movement. B was also the default confirmation button.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
When i added "PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%" game started to work even better with less input lag
Works Perfectly
Each icon for the buttons on the controller were incorrect. I was able to use the in-game settings to map the controls to my controller, but the D-Pad axes were displayed incorrectly. This didn't affect anything in the gameplay.
The only problem I had was with the visuals for the controller mapping being messed up, but once I got around it, I was able to play the game as usual.
Unfortunately is not reasonably playable past the tutorial unless you don't mind a silent game and never restart a level.
All music is interrupted and stops playing permanently after certain sfx play.
When restarting level from the pause menu, game gets stuck on a black screen with no response and must be force quit.
There were some weird slowdown issues on newer versions of Proton, almost like a stuttering. Switching to the old Proton fixed that.
No issues aside from hiccups when switching from windowed to fullscreen
When switching from windowed to fullscreen, the whole screen blacks out -- even if you switch to another window or workspace -- until Alt-Tab is used to get back to the game itself. Also, fullscreen mode generates this log message in the Marco WM (X11, default in MATE):
Window manager warning: Window 0x8200001 (Freedom Pl) sets an MWM hint indicating it isn't resizable, but sets min size 1 x 1 and max size 2147483647 x 2147483647; this doesn't make much sense.
A native Linux version should be coming out very soon – no surprise given Freedom Planet 1 had one, and Freedom Planet 2 is written in Unity – but I don't see it on Steam yet.
Works out of the Box
Installed, luanched, and played with no problems with an Xbone controller and keyboard.
While perfectly playable at the beginning, it starts to show the papercuts not long after
Entering and exiting the levels when full screen has some resolution changes which showed the Plasma panel for a split second. This is on Wayland, haven't tested on X11.
Game has brutally high CPU usage (only in the levels) and temps are locked to 90. Slowdown only really starts with Phoenix Highway, dropping to a constant 20fps. Not really playable after that, so I haven't tested the rest of the game.
Literally just wait a couple weeks for the native linux build, that one should work perfect :D
