lower settings gets the game to stable 40 fps

Ubisoft launcher needs fixing, as usual.

Needs injecting Ubisoft Connect, otherwise doesnt start

I would recommend turning on Gyro if you plan on using the bow/tools (like the darts)
Uplay had connection problems when starting the game for the first time.
I fixed it like this:
- Go to desktop mode
- Go to the game folder
- Somewhere in the game folder should be a Ubisoft Connect installer. Add that as a non-steam game, go to its properties and make it use Proton to launch it.
- Launch the Ubisoft Connect installer and wait for it to complete.
- Go back to the game folder and navigate a few folders back to "steamapps". In there, go to "compatdata".
- Non-steam games usually have long ID's, so if you don't have other non-steam games thru Proton just find the longest folder name in the "compatdata" folder. If you have multiple, then sort by last modified.
- Go to steamapps/compatdata/[ubiConnectID]/pfx/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Ubisoft
- Copy "Ubisoft Game Launcher", go back to compatdata, replace the ID with 582160, go to the same route and replace "Ubisoft Game Launcher" with the copied folder
I ran out of space for the launcher issue, but I hope everything is understandable.

Proton Experimental selected by Valve testing. No extra problems, basic settings out of the box, install, login, and continue playing from save, to save battery, you can limit the number of frames to 30fps

Ran the Ubisoft Connect version of the game. Extremely few noticeable shader compilation stutters. Game runs at a locked 30 FPS.

TDP set to 9W

Text is a bit small
Exact graphical settings (based on DF's optimized settings for Odyssey):
- Resolution: 1280x800
- Resolution Modifier: 100%
- FOV: 100/115
- FPS Limit: Off (using SteamOS's 60Hz/30 FPS limit instead, you might want to use in-game limit to alleviate some of the input lag)
- Anti-Aliasing: Adaptive
- Dynamic Resolution: 30 FPS (comes from AA Adaptive)
- Shadows: High
- Environment Details: High
- Texture Detail: High
- Tessellation: Very High
- Terrain: High
- Clutter: Very High
- Fog: Very High
- Water: Very High
- SSR: High
- Volumetric Clouds: On
- Texture Detail: High
- Character: Ultra High
- AO: High
- DoF: On
Great experience throughout, provided you don't mind the input lag. Typical power consumption around 18.5W with 70% brightness. I highly recommend lowering the TDP manually (9W), otherwise the game will clog the GPU/GPU for no apparent reason (even when locked at 30 FPS).
You have to log in with Uplay, once it's done though you don't need to do it again
Used the following settings to get mostly locked 40fps:
- Aspect ratio: 16:10
- Resolution: 1200 X 800
- Resolution modifier: 100% (you can drop this to 90 to get a properly stable 40fps)
- AA: Medium
- Shadows: V low
- Environment details: High
- Texture detail: Medium
- Tessellation/Terrain/Clutter/Fog/Water/SSR: High
- Volumetric clouds: Off
- Character texture detail: High
- Character: High
- Ambient Occlusion: High
- Depth of Field: On
The only dips I've seen have been when going very fast on a boat. If you drop the modifier to 90% then they disappear too.
Capped at 45 FPS
Uplay, but you only need to log in once
Using Ultra settings on proton experimental and set fps limit to 30 from steam settings. Great experience and hardly drops below 30-28 fps
I wanted to disable uplay notifications for an annoying popup during gameplay. It was impossible to close the UPlay overlay for some reason after that so had to restart steam.
Runs great on the deck. Better after a few small changes. Cloud saves kinda suck thanks to Ubisoft Connect handling them instead of Steam.
Running the game at a forced resolution of 1024x640 using the steam game properties. This will allow you to run the game using FSR. From there adjust your sharpness to your liking. I run a 3. With this I am able to run the game at very high settings with an average of 45-50 fps. I recommend turning the ambient occlusion down to high as you won't really see a big difference and it'll help with performance. Same with fog.
Ubisoft Connect installed for me automatically, but you may need to use protontricks to install Uplay to your prefix if it doesn't auto install. Once Uplay is installed, it will auto update to Ubisoft Connect.
I use the L4 for Animus pinging. R4 for whistling and calling horse. L5 for changing bows and R5 for changing swords.
I do have some issues with sleeping the game and Ubisoft Connect reconnecting to the web so my cloud save syncs so I can continue on my computer. Relaunching and closing the game fixes this.
Going offline and online is the other issue with the Ubi Connect launcher. Going offline, you just have to wait for the program to prompt you when you're offline. But going online seems to require me to launch the game in desktop mode and switch to Ubi Connect to change back to online mode for save syncing. Might be an easier way for this, but I haven't found it yet.
You will sometimes get crackling when resuming from sleep. It doesn't seem to fix itself, but restarting the game will fix it.
See secondary launcher problems section.
The game runs pretty well and pretty consistently with some minor drawbacks. But working around these little issues, it's been a joy to play even at the slightly lower frame rate compared to my PC.

Installed Ubisoft Connect with Lutris, then I launched it to install the game. Steam is launching the game as a non-steam with all default options. Had to manually create the game listing with the appropriate path of ubisoft connect and uplay/url of the game as options
regular fps adjustments (30), medium graphics and cpu power decrease
Game runs great!
Framerate limit 40fps
Requires Ubisoft Connect launcher login, which is difficult to use with gamepad/touchscreen
Slow loading times even on internal SSD

assassins creed was working flawless the last weeks on proton experimental. after proton experimental update today the same error popup like with the non expermental version appears. "You are runningthe game without a driver or with an unsupported video card".
Game runs fantastic and looks great as well - 60 FPS isnt doable in the cities / crowded areas but overall runs great
This one was tough to get good battery improvements out of went with 30 - 40 FPS Lock 800P Mix of High - Med Settings gives you around 2 hours of battery life

In Steam Deck since yesterday V1.60 works selecting Bleeding Edge branch of Proton Experimental settings, I test 2 hours without issue (only with little sound cracking)
nowadays ONLY works with Bleeding Edge repository under Proton Experimental TAB
limit fps to 30
crashes within 2 minutes
unplayable at the moment
After launching the game, it suddenly freezes. It can happen during the loading screen, shortly after or after a few minutes of play.
Gyro/trackpad doesn't work when one of the buttons is pressed.

The grame freezes within a minute.
Game ran fine for a while, but encountered frequent freezing after a few hours. Haven't found a solution yet.

Had to log in to Ubisoft Connect, didn't work under latest stable Proton, had to switch to GE.
At first, I was able to play for a number of hours without issue. Now I can't play without it freezing within a few minutes. It seemed to start after I switched from 40Hz back to 60Hz, then setting the framerate to 30fps. I switched all graphics settings back to low, and reset the Gamescope options to default, still freezes. I tried verifying game files, didn't help. Other games aren't freezing so I don't know why ACO is suddenly unplayable for me. I tried Proton GE and the latest stable, no change.
I'm going to try a complete wipe and reinstall, and other Proton versions, but I'm not sure if that will fix it or not.

Issues are occuring when launching through Steam Deck interface, through normal desktop - works perfectly
small FPS drops to around 15 even on lowest graphical settings, but not making the game unplayable

Installed via uplay and then launched as non-Steam game. Works and runs beautifully
