game crashes when opened
set virtual display 1024x768
Music volume not change (other Cossacks 1 games has this too)
Played with Proton 7.0-5 and set virtual display via protontricks
The game starts but it seems to get stuck and nothing happens
Audio randomly working on game startup or not - need to relaunch the game until it works to play with audio. May be fixable with extra tinkering
Game speed (which also controls mouse scrolling fluidity/speed) is broken, but this also occured on non-ancient windows OS for me (windows 98 being the last one where the game worked 100% as intended). Setting "game speed" in game options to slow and mving speed slider to around 85-90% makes it work perfectly for me (optimal values might depend on hardware speed). Unfortunately the speed settings (slow/fast) in main menu options are apparently not used by the game when starting gameplay, so need to swap it for each gameplay. You can keep the speed "fast" and adjust slider more aggressively down, but animations will be ugly and map scrolling will be wonky.
Other proton versions may result in following: game not launching at all, problems with resolution after minimizing, options menu extremely laggy (0.1 fps), higher probability of failed sound initialization on game launch
No stability or gameplay issues, runs fine
The menu buttons don't always look right, this is likely due to high resolution, not Proton/wine.
Music can be disabled, but the crackling sound is grating.
Music volume slider doesn't work. Audio suffers crackling severely for certain sounds (gunfire).
At 1366x768 the right side of the screen has a vertical band. Lower resolutions have no issues.
Overall near native experience
The game crashed when I selected the diplomatic center
The game is running a little bit too fast, but is still playable
Runs too quickly.
Works Perfectly
