There is one unusual thing compared to Windows, which is frequent uncaught exceptions from lsteamclient.dll
Occasional uncaught exceptions that do not happen on Windows
When there are many other players in the vicinity, there are frequent occurences of uncaught exceptions that do not happen under Windows and that cause a game state that does not sync with other players properly anymore.

It does work as well as it does on windows.
Normal starbase crashing. Game is unfinished.
No issues caused by proton or linux. Normal Starbase bugs.
When you click play, it hangs without a game window for 1-3 minutes before launching normally.

The multiplayer works as well as it does in Windows. While the multiplayer mode still has more issues than an MMO ought to have, that's down to the game itself, not Proton or Linux.
The game takes significantly longer to start up compared to Windows. I estimate about 2 minutes.
Other than that, the game is running as well as it does on Windows. In one particular aspect, it's even running better: On Windows, when using an AMD GPU, the game often shows a very annoying bug, where shadows are flickering all over the place, completely changing their position from one frame to the next. That particular bug seems to be gone under Proton.
FPS might also be a bit better, however, with a game like this, that can be hard to judge. It is dependent on too many random factors that are hidden from the player and/or not under the player's control. That said, since the developers rebooted some of the game servers earlier this month, FPS has been stuck at 60 for me. (The upper limit of my monitor with V-Sync enabled.)
Instant crash
It is a space MMO and everything works just as well as on Windows
The game window takes around 2 minutes to show up
Game crashes on loading in high quality models
I can log into the game and play normally for a couple of minutes while high quality LODs are being loaded in, but as soon as they finish loading the game freezes forever and spits out crash report windows like a machine gun

Goof performance, on par with Windows system.
Sometime some stutter

If you have multiple drivers installed for your AMD card, make sure to test them all. AMDVLK was awfull for me, whereas RADV work perfectly.
To switch, go into the game's steam properties, and use "AMD_VULKAN_ICD=RADV %command%" as the launch options
Works out of the Box. All bugs / Problems are caused by the game itself, not Linux / Proton
Game crashes from time to time, but not caused by Linux, crashes way more often in Windows (game is simply still buggy)

Tested it in Windows and then played in Linux, in Windows the game crashes a lot, in Linux I did not experience any crash but once.
No performance difference / slight performance increase in Linux (because my hardware is limited for this game and Linux manages better the PC resources)

Borked?
I have been playing it for almost 60 hours with Proton running better and more stable than windows but I just tried opening it after the latest patch. No dice. No idea what could be causing it.
plays perfect, game is in beta/alpha so game has some issues non related to proton/linux I play daily with my guild.
Works perfectly fine out of the box
Runs better than on Windows 10

Any bugs and crashes I had were problems with the game, not Proton. Works perfectly otherwise!
6.14-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Works perfectly. All bugs I encountered are game bugs due to it being an early alpha.
Since this game is still heavily in development (early access alpha launch 2 days ago), performance can vary a lot. I highly recommend to set an FPS limit that your PC can reach 95% of the time for a more consistent experience. I set mine to 45 FPS, for example. Apart from that, the game likes to "crash" occasionally due to game bugs, which opens a report window you need to close to continue playing. You might need to alt-tab a few times after closing the window to gain back control of your character.
Works great with Glorious Eggroll
No problems as far as I can see

CLOSED ALPHA: Runs great!
The game runs better then it ever has on Windows.

it runs good and with no tweaking.
FPS drop while looking at instancing boxes, disappeared later
poor performance on Debian. Play it on something Ubuntu based or Arch based.

So far I have not had any issues running the closed alpha. Any bugs I have experienced so far are also present in the Windows version from what I managed to find out.
I can not speak for possible performance problems as I have no comparison. With my rx480 and my ryzen 5 2600x on medium settings I get between 30 and 120 fps though. So definitely playable!
