The game worked great from beginning to end on my Mint install.
The game works on Arch Linux but the fonts won't render correctly. It looks like it may be a mesa
problem. Check this out for more information.

Worked out of the box.
Entering the player name apparently requires windowed mode; other than that fullscreen shouldn't be a problem.
Fonts had to be installed with protontricks
Game can't enter character name in full screen. Turn off full screen to proceed past this point.
Use winetricks to install corefonts and gdiplus to fix game fonts
If using a version greater than Proton 3.16, we can't get past the character naming screen.
Game crashes when you reach the point of naming your character. No workaround known.

I had to follow this instruction : To play Final Fantasy V, install corefonts using winetricks with WINEPREFIX=~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/382890/pfx and the game is playable with no issues found.
And i had a problem with the character naming where i get a black screen, however, removing full screen fixed the problem and allow to play the rest of the game

Fonts fixed with gdiplus, runs and can walk around however you cannot get past the name your character dialog as it's just black. Tried with corefonts installed also.

Only "WINEPREFIX=YOUR PATH HERE/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/382890/pfx/ winetricks gdiplus" was needed to fix the text rendering. I just walked around a few minutes but it worked without problems.

Require to install gdiplus using protontricks (protontricks 382890 gdiplus) or with winetricks (WINEPREFIX=~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/382890/pfx winetricks gdiplus) as mentioned in previous posts. Corefonts doesn't seems to be required.

As has been previous stated, corefonts is required, but I have found gdiplus is also needed. To fix the text, run: WINEPREFIX=~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/382890/pfx winetricks gdiplus

To play Final Fantasy V, install corefonts using winetricks with WINEPREFIX=~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/382890/pfx and the game is playable with no issues found.

No improvement, fonts are still completely unreadable.

There's definitely an issue with the fonts. It seems to be trying to lay many characters on top of each other. The game seems to play pretty well besides the completely unreadable text, though.

Unreadable fonts.

Works fine - but font is screwed and missaligned

All text is displayed on top of itself on one line, completely unreadable
