Needed fresh install (didn't work transferred to new hardware)
My Steam cloud save from earlier was missing
Using my preexisting Steam folder (which worked for all the other games in my library that I tried) moved to a new computer, this didn't initially work (would start up and immediately shut down without error...verified all the game files several times). But uninstalling the game entirely and reinstalling it seemed to work, at least the second time.

Kings quest is running great out of the box.
This game used to have massive issues - it is amazing to see it fixed and working!
Audio does not work with Proton 5.13 (as of 5.13-5), Proton Experimental, or Proton-5.21-GE-1. It works with Proton 5.0-10 and Proton 5.9-GE-8-ST.
No issues. Runs perfectly out of the box.

On Chapter 1 (the free demo, I think?) yes, but Chapter 2 (paid DLC), no.
Fairly laggy for gamers, but this isn't gamer hardware.
After about 5 minutes of play (no matter the starting point) the game crashes with a message about being out of video memory. On the same hardware, this never happened in Chapter 1, but after purchasing the Season Pass, this happens all the time in Chapter 2, making the game nearly unplayable.
Ran out of the box for me. I played for about an hour with no issues.

Launches to black screen
Still borked, but launching to black screen is an improvement over not launching at all

I didn't tweak anything, just ran it. Performance was fine, except for a slight delay when transitioning between scenes sometimes, but that's probably because my specs aren't the best for gaming. Played through all of Chapter 1 without issues within the game itself. However, the two screenshots I took via the Steam shortcut turned out all black.

Works perfect without tweaks with 4.11-4. Previously played through all five chapters with 3.7-8 and the tweaks listed here.

Played most of the first chapter without issue. Everything works fine with this version.

No more black objects, no more audio crackling, and it shuts down properly on exit.

As previously reported, the game works with Proton 3.7-8 after some setup. These steps require both wine and winetricks to be installed in the system.
(1) Before initially starting the game (no prefix created yet), rename /.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Steamworks\ Shared/_CommonRedist/DotNet/4.5.2/installscript.vdf to prevent Steam from installing .NET in the new prefix. If the prefix has already been created, delete it: rm -rf ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/345390/pfx
(2) Press Play to get Steam to create the game prefix. The game will not actually load yet.
(3) export WINEPREFIX=/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/345390/pfx
(4) Run 'wine uninstaller' and uninstall wine mono
(5) Install dotnet40 and xact using winetricks
(6) (Optional) Rename the file from step 1 back to its original name (installscript.vdf).
The first time I started the game after following these steps, Steam threw out a couple errors about not being able to find a proper runtime for the executable. The game started up anyway, and subsequent startups have not given that error.

Lots of black textures, invisible objects, that sort of thing. Might work better after a future release of Proton.

Installs, launches, closes just fine now and the audio works well, too. But many objects in the world remain black. That's still broken since after 3.7-8.

Needs dotnet45 and other things installed trough winetricks, but even then many objects on screen are completely black. Unplayable like that.

Game will not launch

- Using Proton 3.7-8, set the launch option "PROTON_DUMP_DEBUG_COMMANDS=1 %command%" and click on Play. 2) Download .NET40 from here: "https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17718". 3) Open a terminal and run: "/tmp/proton_$USER/run winecfg". Set the WIndows version to 2003, and add an override for xaudio2_7 in the libs section. 4) Run "/tmp/proton_$USER/run <.net40location>/dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe" (change the dir accordingly and install it). 5) Run "killall mscorsvw.exe". 6) Rename the file "installscript.vdf" inside <game's dir>/_CommonRedist/DotNet/4.5.2 to something else and play the game. Note: It works perfectly with 3.7-8 but the are graphical issues with 3.16-Beta. Also, if you launch the game with 3.16 and then go back to 3.7-8 .NET will not work anymore, and you will have to delete the game's 'pfx' folder and repeat the process.

Managed to run the game after installing libgnutls26 from AUR and installing wine-mono into the wine prefix. After that, the game launches, but there are a lot of graphical issues (black objects with missing textures). Additionally, the game will hang on exit and need to killed.

wont launch

Will not launch at all
