Works fine after launch options tweak. GE Proton 9x is recommended for peak performance.

Using DATA's user.cfg tweaks for performance
Since the Nov 2024 patch the game will occasionally begin stuttering significantly during a match and require a client reload to clear the issue.
I play competitive MWO on Linux without issues.

very distant terrain occasionally becomes see-through, had a similiar problem on windows though.
machine gun bullets were invisble, other weapons worked fine.
met with blackscreen on fullscreen. fixed by disabling adaptive sync in kde settings.
with mouse wheel scrolling enabled in kde settings the game would recognize mouse 3+mouse movement as mouse 1. fixed by disabling mouse wheel scrolling.
drive the game was installed on from windows was left alone during linux install, hud and audio mods carried over and work just fine.

window becomes small even full window mode when after monitor change or turned off
It takes some minutes when launching and changing in-game configs
Worked just fine.

had to use proton 8, tried the most up to date but it didnt work.

Made tweaks to allow usage of all six weapon groups.
Loads very slowly if installed on a MicroSD card.

This game worked with Proton Experimental on Nvidia too. I use Kubuntu on Xorg.
No additional configuration or troubleshooting is necessary. I've even seen overall better performance and load times on Linux than Windows.
Everything ran smoothly, could hear other players and respond.

today is August 7 2022, MWO wont launch.
it seems the current experimental proton broke MWO, went back to Proton 7.0 and it started working again.
played on Nvidia driver 515 with the launch options gamemoderun %command% -noprompt -anygpu and then it works
gamemoderun %command% -noprompt -anygpu
Randomly starts in 1080p fullscreen, even though i have a 1440p. alt+tab out and back in to the game fixes issue.
Game plays better on EndOS than Win11.
No tinkering required!
Runs smooth without lag or artifacts
Fun free-to-play game.

Worked with Proton-Experimental, so I thought I try with GE-Proton7-20. Follow below:
- Used GE-Proton7-20 in SteamDeck following this post, which allowed me to install GE-Proton7-20 and used that in game.
- On Game Launch option, make certain you add 'gamemoderun %command%' as well for the extra FPS.
Capped refresh rate to 40

none
only a minor bug. In the preview of selecting mech it does show my custom colors, just the default mech colors.
I dont know what I'm doing so I went with the default.
By default the game uses a community layout, wich is well made but doesn't feature every single button. So, some tweaks are still needed for completing the tutorial.
Got fixed by last Proton Experimental update (needs to be forced), must use touchscreen for navigating the menu.
Game would get as far as opening credits. Would generally crash before entering the account login page.
Running the game in desktop mode would allow me to get past the account login page sometimes, but would crash within a minute or two of entering the mech Bay (main menu).
gamemoderun %command% -noprompt -anygpu
Mechlab looks passable but small on deck screen. I played using a dock and external monitor for this initial test.
Played a match and performed well.
Surprisingly playable on deck with M+KB at least. I plan to at least try playing via Deck alone but expect that to just not be a great experience.
gamemoderun %command% -noprompt -anygpu

Crashes exiting the Testing Area.
Probably not stable. I dont know what changed from yesterday and today. Will keep trying and generating reports.

installed, tried the gamemoderun %command% -noprompt -anygpu and without it.
booted the intro but failed to launch. is my specs too low?
gamemoderun %command% -noprompt -anygpu

It just worked
I will save others the pain I experienced trying to make this game work. I had an issue with the login window appearing and then crashing a moment later. It was not a proton issue though that's the natural assuption. It was a MWO issue that also affects windows. You'll need to add an evironmental system variable. Here is the post that put be on to the problem: https://www.reddit.com/r/OutreachHPG/comments/rmixme/fix_for_black_screen_window_at_mwo_game_launch/ . That tells you what the problem is and how to deal with in in widows. This shows you how to add evironmental variables in Linux: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paQQ5HCpaRc . The game now works great for me. I hope this saves some folks time and makes this game available to more people.

Multiplayer works perfectly fine aside from maybe a random FPS drop here and there, but not enough to make a huge difference.
Tried previous Proton versions as well as the new Proton 7.0-1 and all seem to crash either at Main Menu or right after a Multiplayer match. GE is the only one that works
Runs great with GloriousEggroll 6.21-GE-2 and launch command: -noprompt -anygpu. Sometimes game stutters at Solaris City but thats because of bad map design. I set everything to low except textures to medium/high. Runs very good.

Crashes within a minute of game window opening (blackscreen).
Tried Proton 6.3-8, Proton Experimental, Proton-6.21-GE-2, and Proton-7.1-GE-2. This game works perfectly using GE on a similar machine with an Nvidia graphics card running Manjaro KDE.

Proton-7.Orc6-GE-1
GE Proton 7 Orc6 GE 1 worked flawless up to when it stopped working (there was no update on MWO though)
Proton 4.2-9 Makes it sometimes work but only if I delete the pfx and thus all keybindings.... It does not work reliably however ("unexpected error" pops up) and it still seem to crash after a while.
Runs perfectly using custom proton (at launch it shows message about unsupported gpu. click ok and it still starts)
Glorious Eggroll's Proton-7.0rc3-GE-1 (would launch but crash with proton experimental)

Unsupported graphics card GTX780
Tried non experimental after experimental failed said same thing.
Glorious Eggroll's Proton-6.21-GE-2
In order to get acceptable frame rates, I had to set the game to render with DirectX 9. Not sure if this was Proton related or game related.
Noticeable lesser frame rate from Windows with High 1440P. Could get back to that framerate in Proton by going to 1080P Medium.
Crashed after the end of a quick play round.
The Glorious Eggroll Proton Version 6.21-GE-1 did not experience the crash.
work's out the box. except for one little flaw unrelated to proton.
only problem is your resolution/audio setting's are kept on your account so thing's will be weird every launch untill you enter your login. but after that it's all good.
Works OoTB w/ proton-GE and nVidia 3070 but not nVidia 3080
The base system is exactly the same. Using the nVidia 3070 it works well as reported by other users. However, using the nVidia 3080, the game crashes at the initial black loader window when dx3d is initializing. MWO launcher logs do not register the crash. Proton logs show a variety of low-level execution errors.
There are many reports by other MWO players about the 3080 issue for Windows, but the solutions are specific to Windows and the Windows nVidia driver.
I'd love to see a fix in Proton-GE.

Currently requires Proton-GE to work. Did not work with default proton or proton experimental.
