I am using the CD ISO to install and play it in Wine-Staging under Arch Linux. After using the widescreen fix, it is working normally.
Using widescreen fix from here : https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2Zw811YZELSdHpVMkU4M21fUms/view?resourcekey=0-5Jcx0kCkO_9a0o9P-YvL4g
Make sure to check "Enable dgvoodoo2" to make the game work after tabbing out or opening the esc menu. Without this option, the game's graphics will break after doing one of those things.
In Multiplayer, the game will time out randomly. This is not a linux bug, but was always part of the experience :D
As I am still owning the original version "Patrician 2 Gold", I am running the game through Lutris.
Before starting the game for the first time, you will need to run "P2Setup.exe". Just register it as a new game using a wine runner and start it once - done.
I installed the game on linux using proton (from Properties, Compatibility I ticked to force a Steam Play compatibility tool, I chose Proton Experimental).
I tried to run it, but it returned me the followin error message:
Patrician 3: Please run "P2Setup.exe" to test your video card prior to starting the game.
I fixed the issue as follows. I opened a terminal and prompted the following commands:
cd ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/33570/pfx/ env WINEPREFIX=$PWD winecfg
Then I set Windows 7 in the Applications tab. I downloaded the reg file "Patrician_3_Win7_64bit.reg" from the website https://support.gog.com (I found it here: https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/articles/212451369-Patrician-3-The-resolution-800x600x16-could-not-be-initialised?product=gog but this link might expire) I moved the reg file on the folder ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/33570/pfx/ then, in a terminal in that folder I run
env WINEPREFIX=$PWD wine start regedit.exe Patrician_3_Win7_64bit.reg
Apart from this initial bug, the game was just fine.
Completely playable, I guess. However, you can never use the options menu without a workaround.
if you ever enter the menu from inside the game, then go back to the game, it triggers a window cleanup that somehow sets the game outside of the screen. No further play is then possible. Workaround: whenever you go to the menu, save your game, exit to desktop, restart Patrician and load your game.
Works really well with some minor tweaks
Very Important! The first time you launch the game it will launch the P3Setup.exe. Here you NEED to at least Test the 800x600 options!! Otherwise the game wont let you start afterwards telling you something is wrong with your video card driver. I think thats because the main menu is displayed in that resolution but not sure. I suggest if possible test all resolutions so you can set them as your ingame resolution later on. If the resolution you like hasn't been tested it wont show up later on.
Also there is a widescreen mod for full HD resolutions https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=382413909 Works also fine. Just follow the instructions and copy the 2 folders and the game exe of the desired resolution into the directory. In order for it to work the 1024x768 resolution should be used.
Have fun trading!
Game worked after I used steam "Set Launch Option": %command% -w1024
Small graphics bug when saving the game, just press Esc and it goes on well.
Runs well after 1.1b patch + 1080p resolution pack
Intro video is only black (can be skipped with ESC) - 1.1b adds an additional intro video that cannot be skipped
Before patching the game I experienced heavy artifacts and graphical issues, along with some stability issues. I'm not submitting this as a Tinker report as it seems like these are issues with the game itself and are fixed with an official patch. I didn't have issues with the steam overlay.
The game runs OK if you disable Steam Overlay and run it with the latest Proton.
Cant play in 1920x1080
No escala el video de introducción. He jugado el tutorial entero sin problemas.
Crashes.
takes a while to start but then it works nicely
Says it hangs ...force to close.. intro playes ...then crash
if you click ESC when you play and then continue playing the picture is not correct and you can not play. But you can save, get out and then load
Asks to run P2Setup.exe first
