Clicking in game popup menus for options did not work well, like it was registering double clicks, thus re-selecting the already selected choice. But this was a non issue, since the game's popup select options (difficulty, map, checkboxes for friendly fire and diff multiplier) are trivially traversible using the arrow keys
Just selected Proton Experimental and it worked like a charm. Other versions of Proton might work too.
modify the config.cfg breaks the engine however you can put in "windowed fullscreen" modifying this lines if you use the 1366x768 resolution

Download the "hide top bar" extension and press the alt + tab keys to adjust the game window
