Zombies mode works great with Proton Experimental, but some custom zombie maps (e.g. Leviathan) don't run, so you have to use the GE-Proton9-7 version.

newest updates borked it
Black Ops 3 on Deck is the definitive way to play BO3, as it turns your Deck into the ultimate portable Zombies playing console

50 FPS cap
Menu screens stutter quite a bit but it's manageable
Joining lobbies all worked fine, I believe the issues I did experience were related to the mods we were trying to use together

Game crashes when trying to load any gamemode that uses multiplayer networking. all singleplayer features (campaign, solo zombies) work without issues. When leaving a game and going back into the main menu or going into a sub menu also crashes the game. (examples: ending a solo zombies game then being sent back to main menu, going into multiplayer then going back to main menu)
Main Menu heavy Stuttering. does not affect gameplay.
Game crashes when trying to load any gamemode that uses multiplayer. (pvp multiplayer, co op zombies)
As stated before, anything that uses any type of networking such as online or LAN crashes when starting the game.
Currently, COD 3 multiplayer is broken due to the SteamOS 3.5 update. It is the only reason why people still play COD 3 for most people. I will update this report when it is fixed by steam. the BOiii Client may fix these issues but it requires a good amount of tinkering while fowloing a guide, it is not easy to just get it running on the SD. it also requires a way to emulate LAN using a software like hamachi or Radmin to be able to play with friends.

Some menu text difficult to read
Menu performance very poor
Zombies works brilliantly single player, but not split screen, which is the whole reason I bought this in the sale, so hopefully Valve can get this sorted soon. Does still crash after every game of Zombies as others have reported though. *Not completely but broken enough to call it broken

recent steam update causes zombies to crash after match ends, and broke splitscreen
splitscreen crashes upon match start

Set System Update Channel to Beta (OS 3.4.11)
Crashes after every game of zombies. Have to start the game again.
50 Hz Lock

My desktop running Pop!_OS has the same issue. Feels like a VAC detection or something, probably something on Valve's end since the game hasn't updated in ages.

I've tried Default, Experimental, Proton GE, and Proton. the game is completely BORKED with the latest Steam OS update Valve PLEASE FIX!
Once things get fixed I will update to say so.
The game is so close before being in a working state that I would consider enjoyable. But all these smaller issues add up and ruin the mood.
Some smaller text in menus like NAT-Type in the main menu.
Controlling the game via Steam Deck inputs suddenly stops working completely after some time and reconnecting gamepads didn't work after they went off.
Tons of graphical hickups where the GPU utilization goes to 0% for a short time before bouncing back up to 40%-100%. And that over and over and over again even in the main menu and some multiplayer.
The connection to my Zombies lobby just got cut randomly and I had to reboot the game.
you have to delete videos folder in order to play campaign, after passing new world mission you can let game download files again, multiplayer and zombies are working good. Settings 60fps, high/medium settings and fsr
fsr
occasionaly lag spikes
time to time disconnect
if you dont want to touch campaign you dont have to delete videos folder
gamemoderun DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%
reduced resolution to 720p and built-in fsr
Using GE-Proton7-41, it allowed me to boot the game with ease. However, whenever I launched a Zombies map, it would have TERRIBLE stuttering. Especially in customs Zombies maps, where I would constantly be around the low 30s. Using the launch options above, thanks to another protondb review I found, allowed the stuttering to be completely eliminated. What went from the low 30s went to a pretty solid 60 fps with occasional dips once in a while (I have the TDP limit set at 10 tbf). Really good experience once you get that sorted out. You can lower the resolution, use the built-in FSR, and limit the FPS to around 45 to still have an excellent experience playing BO3 while extending your battery life but personally, I'm having pretty solid battery life just having the FPS at 60.
every CoD zombies gamer have to own it and play, it can pass time like nothing, easter eggs are enabled and custom zombies are working
none added
works but I am not a gyro guy, even quick restart works on my back grip button its like a dream to play, edited the keybinding and added "bind l map_rotate"
the menu seems to be very laggy making a feel the game won't work good and stutter, that is not the case, you enter to a zombies game and no problem
played with my friend on private game and it worked. nat type can be a bitch but its the same as PC
just too small to handle split screen. but can handle too controllers!
every CoD zombies gamer have to own it and play, it can pass time like nothing, easter eggs are enabled and custom zombies are working, mods all day, very enjoyable and one of the reasons I bought my deck, custom zombies and zombies on the go!
stutters due to steam dlc check
Game plays smoother in Offline Mode
Until the issue mentioned in this Steam community post is rectified the game struggles to reach higher than 55fps while playing connected to the Steam servers.
I was able to play the game up to about 70fps on max settings after switching to offline mode.
960 x 600 High to Med Settings 50 FPS Cap to get the most responsive experience but you can go with a lower framerate
The game is broken on windows and linux the game will stutter if you dont have all dlcs installed and being forced to install the story mode and all the mp dlcs is wasting 60+gb of space so not really worth it so the game will stutter here and there but its not that bad, the menus will lag like crazy though
you can also play in offline mode to fix this
The game will stutter here and there unless you install all dlcs menus are extremely laggy
for a visual representation https://youtu.be/mGg4wNnogtE
set everything to low 45 fps cap and used fsr to gain an extra 2 hour of gameplay
zombies with a friend on pc worked flawlessly
no tinkering jumped right in on Steam Deck
Occasionaly stutters at a locked 60Fps
Custom zombies online does not work on a micro SD Card
Have to use trackpad to access splitscreen, Had a weird sensetivity glitch once. Would recommend a less intensive custom zombies map so you can achieve better framerates.
Requires the touchscreen to access splitscreen which can be annoying if you are docking the steam deck to an external display. Custom zombie maps cannot be played online while on a micro sd card unfortunatley. Runs great and suprisingly i managed max settings 1080P on a less intensive custom zombies map on singleplayerr/splitscreen. Turning down the settings dosen't actually give you much of a performance gain which is odd but i recommened playing at high settings and then settings a 40-45Fps Cap. However the biggest issue is that custom zombie maps do not work without tweaking, You have to go into your game files and move folders around. I believe if you install on the internal drive this isn't an issue, but expect issues on the 64Gb. Hoping this gets patched in the future.
Since the new Steam OS update BO3 has received proton 7.0-2 suport and runs perfectly fine without tinkering. Battery life can be optimised
The problem with not being able to open the pause menu on gamepad has been finally fixed so the experience is perfect now
Since the new steam OS Update (20220227.3) I can't open the pause menu after loading into a game The game otherwise works perfect
After booting the deck the first launch doesn't detect the deck controller Restarting the game for a second time fixes it
Can't open the pause menu after loading in a game (zombies, Parkour)
Short battery life on default settings, unable to open pause menu in-game and can't load into the games without using proton Experimental
Zombies works perfectly fine, just make sure to use Proton-GE, otherwise the game will crash on startup.
Turning down the graphics settings will improve battery life.
The regular Proton version does not work with Black Ops III, use Proton-GE and you're good to go. Controls works great, game runs well and no problems with audio or input lag.
Lowered all settings to low and turned down resolution scale
Tooltips are extremely tiny on a Deck screen.
Slow downs while downloading games.
In 7.01, it would crash after every round. That's not the same on Experimental.
A near flawless experience after changing around the proton version.
