Digital Sound Initialization Error (Intel RSX 3D drivers are not installed) I made a custom verb for Protontricks in ProtonGE 8.12 to install RSX3d.
LAV Filters need to be installed for video to work correctly and editing the registry to avoid ffdshow compatibility manager popup:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\GNU\ffdshow",'blacklist','REG_SZ','OVERSEER.EXE'
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\GNU\ffdshow_audio",'blacklist','REG_SZ','OVERSEER.EXE'
DgVoodoo for textures, also made a verb to with these changes in [DirectX] section of dgvoodoo.conf:
Filtering = 16
KeepFilterIfPointSampled = true
Antialiasing = 8x
dgVoodooWatermark = false

"Digital Sound Initialization Error" and game fails to start!
"Another application is currently using the Sound Device or Intel RSX 3D drivers are not installed." is part of the message.

Shows an error message related to sound, exits before getting to main menu.
Game starts and reports "Digital Sound Initialization Error: Another application is currently using the Sound Device or Intel RSX 3D drivers are not installed.", after clicking OK, it shows what looks like an old-school NTSC test pattern for a few seconds, then exits.
This game is notoriously difficult to get working on modern versions of Windows. It was designed for Windows 95 and the technology of 1998.
Tested with Proton 6.3-1 and reported to Valve on GitHub.

Mouse cursor is invisible (but does open menus, if you go to top/left/right screen edges)
If you manage to (given the invisible mouse cursor) click the Config menu button, or you use the F9 hotkey mentioned in the manual to do the same, the game immediately freezes and never recovers.
FMV doesn't work at all, which is crucial to understanding the dialogue choices.
Menu loads but game gives MPEG2 error and won't play movies. Tried all available MPEG2 devices in settings, nothing worked. Starting a game won't show all textures.

Game launches, but FMV doesn't work ("MPEG2 driver error") making the game unplayable.
