As you can see, there's no guarantee the game'll work native for you. This might get worse as the game gets older, there's a Linux native version of Rollercoaster Tycoon that's pretty much unplayable on modern distros, for example.
But. This one worked on my machine. Maybe keep the forced Proton route in mind if it doesn't on yours.

Game doesn't work for me native anymore, but it does on Proton out of the box. I installed manually D9VK and it worked as well fine with this DX9 to Vulkan translation.
