make sure protontricks is installed and install directx9 and xact, literally only 2 dlls needed and game runs fantastic

Tinker Steps:Switch to experimental, protontricks

Add d3dx9 and xact to the game's wine prefix

Direct X install fails during installation

The game wont start afterwards.

A workaround is to use the Lutris scriupt here https://lutris.net/games/the-maw/. It will install Steam using wine, then install the game from a "Wine" Steam. That allows the game to install and play properly. Wine Steam is super glitchy, but the game plays fine.

Crashes just after a video. Proton log may point to wine not implemented Generation of mipmaps for compressed pixel formats. Using D9vk also did not work.
