Had to install wininet.dll to download over HTTP servers otherwise you cannot play custom maps
With even Microsoft fonts installed, fonts look slightly messed up but still readable.
Joining via server browser opens a dialog that says "Server is not responding", have to connect manually via console by running "connect " in the in-game console
Overall an enjoyable experience, to note FF in Proton had an issue regarding connectivity, few weeks ago Proton players were getting VAC disconnect errors but that was recently fixed out of nowhere, if that happens again then the game must be played using Wine.
The font is screwed up on higher resolutions and aspect ratios.
It would crash whenever loading up a new map on a server opened through the console
Due to the font, the chat is near impossible to read.
This game doesn't run on Proton, however it runs very well in bottles.
My steps:
- Install bottles using flatpak.
- Make a bottle with a gaming environment.
- Go to "Preferences" by clicking on the cogwheel icon, set FSync and Windows 8, disable virtual desktop and bottles runtime.
- Go to "Dependencies" and install "allfonts".
- Download Steam desktop installer, run it inside a bottle to install Steam.
- Install NEOTOKYO.
- Have fun! 【=˶◕‿↼˶✿=】
- To close the bottle either right click on the steam tray icon and press exit or press the stop icon next to the program in the list.

Crashes the entirety of Steam when loading into a map
Custom audio on pub servers doesn't play
If a server is running a map you don't have downloaded, you'll have to download it manually from the internet and put it in your maps folder to be able to connect to the server.
The only servers with people are custom, and Internet Explorer is required to download custom content so you'll be given an error saying that the map couldn't be downloaded.
Works fine from what I can tell.
The mouse flickers in the main menu.
It crashed when I joined an online server for the first time. Not a single crash after that.
Unfortunately I couldn't find any server with players online, so I can't say anything about how it runs during normal rounds/matches.

The game launched and played fine in full screen mode with proton 5.0-10 RC, it let me change resolutions just fine with no crashes.
Some of the text in the UI (e.g. some of the options window characters) seems to be slightly messed up, but still readable.
Actual in-game pointer position didn't seem to match my cursor's position when trying to navigate the menus in windowed mode.
"Fortress Options" seem to crash the game if you change them while not in a server and then try to join one, but that issue was also present on Windows.
Couldn't load maps unless the rather low default resolution wasn't touched
Mouse would flicker in menus and fonts looked a little off.
Game would crash on loading Training Mode (and i assume any other map) unless the resolution was the default 4:3

This game requires Internet Explorer 8 to be installed to be able to download files from a server. For this, a 32-bit WINE prefix is required. Proton only supports 64-bit WINE prefixes. All workaround attempts failed.
Unless you can get a 32-bit WINE prefix working with Proton, this game will not work correctly.
Game loads into menu, but crashes when you load any map or tutorial. Setting "Texture detail" to Low fixed that crash for me.
Sometimes the game starts without sound
This game has some problems with texture loading, sometimes you load into a map and every texture is black. Also some minor glitches and z-fighting.
Certain combinations of settings are crashing the game when map is loaded. Sometimes the game crashes when you disconnect and connect again.

It seems to install fine, but when run the screen is black and the mouse cursor changes when moving over the screen but nothing actually happens.

When the game is opened, a fullscreen window appears and music starts to play, but the window is mostly black and has random garbage on it (example screenshot: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1780088214).

Steam won't even let me install the game on Linux, says it's not on my platform despite having Proton enabled.

Runs with Proton 4.4-2 without noticeable issues.

Internet Explorer must be downloaded for custom server content.

Black screen and immediately exits, same error as the others.

Launching causes a black screen to pop up, and then disapear. The log ends with "pid 17893 != 17892, skipping destruction (fork without exec?)" (full log here: https://gist.github.com/Jayman2000/2da51531a8f59e39a283b48ed7ec6dd8)

crashes with segfault "23265 != 23264, skipping destruction (fork without exec?)"
