Experienced nothing of notice. Slight slowness on default Proton, but honestly, that might've just been my hardware.
Significant performance problems on higher graphics settings despite adequate performance on windows. Fixed by lowering graphics settings
Game was pixelly on first launch but messing around with tinkering got it to work. More stable in terms of crashes than on Windows, but a bit harder on the hardware. Overall fine.
Game runs perfect out of the box !
Works absolutely flawlessly!
Runs just as good, if not better than it would on Windows.
Had minor lag issues, but that can be attributed to a lack of VRAM more than anything
Works perfectly
I went into the settings menu and didn't have any issues. It worked just like it would've on Windows.
Had no problems, ran perfectly, just as it would've on Windows. Highly recommend.
think it might have been the games DRM (Denuvo) but yes, very very slight slowdown
v1.1.0.1 Fixed the crash on selecting Options in Shadow Generations
While the initial game launch version of v1.1.0 had crashing when selecting 'Options', the update released on November 5, 2024 [v1.1.0.1], now makes playing this game on Linux just as good as on Windows.
No tinkering is required, just install and play. I've played both the Sonic Generations and Shadow Generations portions without any noticable issues.
Performs better and loads faster then on Windows
Absolutely no issues here, actually a better experience on Linux with improved loading.
gamescope -h 1080 -H 1080 -- %command%
In regards to the options crashing in Shadows story, the options from generations carry over,. However if you limit the game to 1920x1080 the options wont crash. any more than that and it will crash. I have seen this happen on windows as well.
Will lock to 60fps at 720p if Shadows and Volumetric Lighting are set to Low.
I did not experience the options menu crash people were reporting. I don't know if that's proton GE or the launch option I used.

Sometimes the game would open on my second monitor, fixing it in options helped. tabbing out of it messed with fullscreen resolution or the game would default to windowed mode. Resetting fullscreen settings fixed it. Suprisingly no crashes.
Game runs like a dream. If you're a sonic fan, then get it.
Can't access options menu in Shadow part of the game
I don't know if it is a general bug or not but trying to go into the options menu crashes the game
No Tinkering Needed
"Options" in Shadow Generations crashes the game
Sonic X Shadow Generations works mostly perfectly. The only issue I encountered was opening the Options menu in Shadow Generations, which crashes the game.
Only settings changed were in Shadow Generations, all settings low. Sonic Generations all high and both run at 60.
Runs as if it were made for the Steam Deck
The game runs quite well. At least the Sonic part as that's the only part I've properly tried so far.
When opening the settings menu for the Shadow section of the game, it crashes. This is true regardless of where you open it from. This seems to also be an issue on Windows according to Steam forum posts
Pro Controller would occassionally disconnect.
Opening the options menu for Shadow Generations crashes the game.
No noticable issues. The game runs as if it was native.
Audio in cutscenes would sometimes stop for about a second; but I think it might be the game itself.
The Sonic side runs identically to the original gens, but the shadow portion runs as expected. Although, the voices in the cutscenes would sometimes halt for about a second in Shadow's campaign - I think it might be the game; but there is an equal probabal chance that it's proton.
gamemoderun mangohud %command%
The game ran flawlessly from first launch
In the Shadow portion of the game, the Options menu crashes the game. GitHub issue opened: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/8185
Games plays perfectly on Proton-GE, Proton 9, or Experimental.
Steam Input required for Dualsense
Played a full run of both Sonic and Shadow portions. Runs perfectly at 4K@60 with excelent performance.
Note: There's a crash when trying to open the options menu in Shadow Generations at certain resolutions on Wayland, however same issue was reported to happen on Windows as well. Crash doesn't happen at 1080p.
Using Dualshock 4 Touchpad was emulating mouse, no other inputs recognised Enabling Steam Input fixed everything
Absolute pre-release perfection, a title whose compatibility befits the ultimate lifeform.
Will currently crash when trying to open the options menu from the main menu or the Shadow Generations portion of the game.
Note that I haven't completed it yet, but from what I've played it works great, at least at 1080p. There's a bit of lag in certain areas.
Display Settings: Brightness: 50 Graphic: Custom Shadow: Low Framerate 60 Anti-Aliasing: FXAA Ambient Occlusion: None Local Reflection: None Bloom: Low Volumetric Lighting: Low Resolution: 1920 x 1080 Resolution Scale: 75% Vsync: Enable
This may be a bit different for you, since I'm using it at 1080p. I'd say use these settings, just to be safe though.
For the most part the game plays fine. There's little to no issues in the Sonic Generations part with minor issues in Shadow's story.
Flickering in cutscenes
Crashes when accessing options in Shadow's Story
Opening Cutscene after Green Hill Act 1 stuttered a bit.
Forgot that these can't be updated or removed...again...so this is to let you know that I played both acts of Chemical Plant Zone, and battery only went down 7-8% during thattike, so there's no major battery drain issue like I thought. Odd that it doesn't have an official rating yet, but I imagine they're waiting till Friday.
Game takes a few minutes to compile shaders, but after that it runs perfectly with no tinkering required.
Mouse cursor sometimes appears on screen when using a controller
I've played through the first three stages of Sonic Generations and the only issue I've noticed is a slight bit of pop-in from time to time that's probably just because I'm running the game off of a hard drive. Haven't played much of Shadow Generations yet, but I've at least verified that it will load into the first stage no problem.
Works OOTB
Everything works fine, but I do want to note that selecting "Options" in Shadow Generations will crash the game. I believe this is an Intel Arc specific issue, as I could not replicate this on my Steam Deck.
Change graphics setting to low for 60fps
Default graphics runs between 45-60 depending on the stage. For a consistent 60fps change the graphics to low and set the fps counter to 60
Great out of the box experience on Steam Deck
Sonic Generations runs as expected with a sustained max frame rate and barely any frame drops. Some minor bugs can occur, but nothing that absolutely breaks the game.
With the default graphics settings, Shadow Generations runs well, with some dips in frame rate in busy scenes, but otherwise runs very well in the White Space. Actions could be taken to improve performance, but default is not a bad option. Barely any bugs were encountered and the experience overall was smooth enough.
As long as you don't need to change settings the game works great.
Requires steam input despite native support. Square button on PlayStation controller stopped working after some time.
Randomly starts significantly lagging. Unable to test with lower graphics settings due to the game crashing when I open the options menu.
Trying to open the options menu crashes the game.
It is supposedly possible to open the options menu on Steam Deck, so it is possible that the consistent crashes are on my end.
displays a message that says my system does not meet minimun requirments despite evidence to the contrary
Both Sonic & Shadow campaigns run great at 60FPS on High settings and default launch setup.
Crashes when loading the options menu, but other than that it's a smooth experience
Crashes when loading the options menu, but other than that it's a smooth experience
gamescope -h 1440 -H 1440 %command%
Likely Hyprland/Wayland related minor screen tearing during some cinematics
Opening the Options menu in Shadow Generations will crash the game. Opening it within Sonic Generations works properly, though.
100%'d the game, everything works, except the options menu
No matter what version of Proton I used trying to open the options on shadow's part of the game will cause it to crash, there is kind of a work around, by going to sonic's part of the game and opening the options there.
100%'d the game, everything works perfectly, except for the options menu
No matter what version of Proton used, opening the options in shadow's part of the game would cause the game to crash. This problem can be some what worked around by going into Sonic's part and accessing the options there.
Dualsense (PS5) controllers do not work on shadow generations
