It just shows steam's loading image, then pops back to the library page. Will not run!

On wayland it's impossible to play online, the game freezes.
Performance problems on recent kernel versions can be fixed by running sudo sysctl kernel.split_lock_mitigate=0
before or while the game is running

Could do some tweaks to better battery life. But will run fine with normal config.

sudo sysctl kernel.split_lock_mitigate=0
If you find yourself having ~40 fps or lower, it's likely that the linux 6.1+ is causing problems. The "launch options" I'm sharing isn't for the game, but for you to enter into a terminal to temporarily disable something in linux that causes the game to artificially run at a lower fps.

Cant tell if performance is lower, but works out of the box with 90 fps on high settings

a little choppy compared to windows, but entirely playable. I probably have more config to setup as well, so it may go away
it'll crash if you alt tab sometimes
Make sure to update(or maybe downgrade?) your GPU drivers. I had nothing but issues with nvidia 535. 550 seems quite stable so far. And to those using nouveau, switch. Pretty sure that's your issue.

Works well with Bluetooth Xbox series X controller and multiplayer online crossplay. Felt small input lag online with Ultra High graphics quality compared to Windows. Can get average 100 FPS High Graphics and 200 FPS on Ultra Low graphics on Benchmark mode. Overall good just maybe not as sharp and responsive as Windows. No major issues yet encountered for me. Starts fairly quickly using Proton Experimental.

after install and trying to run a black screen appears and wont go further.
it have worked before. i havent played for a while. and coming back it wont startup anymore. even reinstall wont change anything.

Crashes on loading a race. Performance is way worse compared to Windows even on the menus.

Made sure that XeSS was turned off as recommended here.
Proton versions from experimental to Proton 6 tried as well as both 535 and 545 Nvidia drivers, but this has not solved the issue.
Game runs well when configured well. Not perfect on this machine but only because the specs suck

Won't even launch
Can't get game to launch with any of the things listed on ProtonDB, using r7 5800x3d, rtx 3070 (535)

I'm unable to boot F1 23 on my computer using any of the methods described here on protonDB, but I've been able to get 3 other games from my steam list to work on Linux just fine.
Same issue as other Pascal users, crashes upon loading into a race.

Works as expected, just with some weird artifacting on the helmets and other reflective surfaces.

Works great out of the box
no tinkering and no crashes, even when loading savegames

Crashes when loading a race
Tried options proposed by others, and Proton 8 and 6.

- Performance gets terrible after changing any setting
- Performance is 30% ~ 40% worse than in Windows
Crash when using Proton above version 7 at the moment
I had to change to Proton 6 ou 7 because Experimental was crashing my game when trying to go to any resolution above Full HD (I have a 4k TV).
I'm using the launch parameters I found here on Protondb from another user (who I appreciate a lot), that allow the game to use DLSS. Unfortunately, that only happens when you run it on Proton 8 ou Experimental.
The performance is way worse than on Windows, but I don't know why yet (the fps are between 60~+100fps, while on Windows I get +100fps all the time). I couldn't get the game to work properly on Proton Experimental, but probably the performance would be way better and more similar to Windows, especially because of DLSS.
Game does launch, but crashes when loading a race or session
The game either freezes until manually force-closing, or EGO Dumper shows up. Tried multiple Proton versions including ProtonGE. It seems DX12-only F1 games (2021 and later) are broken on Linux if using Pascal NVIDIA gpu's. Also, chaning Proton versions multiple times may trigger Denuvo's 5 device per day tamper protection, making the game unlaunchable for 24 hours.

If game ever crashes for any reason, you likelly enabled XESS by accident.
Go to ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/2108330/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/F1 23/hardwaresettings
, edit the hardware_settings_config.xml
and set xess
to false
.
In my previous report I mentioned that I couldn't get DLSS to work, with the above command flags and proton experimental I got it to work, game experience is now awesome :)

Sadly it seems like DLSS won't work on Linux, and FSR is not that perfect and has some artifacting.
Overall, works like a charm
Helmet graphics having weird artifacts and anti-aliasing doesn't seem to work properly with the onboard camera
Flawless

Refresh rate 40, FSR, TDP 10W
Sound stutters through BT headset
Graphics settings can be set to High with some switched to Medium and 1024x768 + FSR and still runs with stable 30 FPS

I initially launched it via experimental, however it would crash at random times. 6-3.8 fixed this immediately, no crashes since switching from experimental to 6-3.8

no dlss
no softlock on g29 fixed with oversteer lock set to 360
g29 softlock not applied used oversteer 360 lock

Game launches, but crashes after around 10-20 seconds
Game now seems to work with GE 7-55, except it crashes soon after launching. Also, the game reported my save data to be corrupt and trying to use the in game feature to fix it did not alleviate the problem.

Game crashes when trying to load in, tried on four different versions which were 8.0-3, GE 7-55, GE 8-3 and Experimental, none worked.
In the console, this is the error which appears: Assertion failed: !status, file ../src-wine/dlls/winevulkan/loader_thunks.c, line 2703
Furthest the game has made it before crashing was playing the F1 introduction video, where all the drivers are showcased.

Very very minor stutters, i wouldn't notice if it wasn't for the latency counter

Only annoying part was logging into EA account, other than that, worked great at stable 60FPS using all default graphic options during races (think it defaults to low/very low on Deck).

Disable TAA in the configuration file so the game won't look insanly blurry. No AA is still the best option in F1 titles, sadly.
TAA is terrible
Unable to invert force feedback for the Logitech G920 wich makes using this wheel impossible as inverting force feedback is requiered on Linux.

With Logitech G29 pedals are incorrectly mapped by default. It can remapped on settings but replays are always looking back, as in previous games.

Immediate Crash upon viewing Main Menu
Game crashes immediately after trying to load the main menu. The Music plays in the background, but the game is otherwise nonresponsive and closes after a few minutes.
The game crahses while loading in to a race and in the personalizing cars menu
