Crashes immediately: "Failed to Initialize Steam API"

Game crashes on start and gives this message: "Failed to initialize Steam API. Make sure that Steam client is running". (I bought this game yesterday here on Steam, I always start all of my games here from the Steam client)

I only have issue with the cursor which can sometimes disappear. The game is fully playable
